Your life, your responsibility.

Many people know what they want yet have no idea to get there. Many aren’t prepared to take action towards their goals. Whilst others aren’t sure what their goals are.

‘The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That’s the day we truly grow up.’ John c. Maxwell

What is it that you really want from life? If you could change anything in the life that you are living now, what would it be?

If you want something, do everything you possibly can to make it happen. Take action. Daily. Consciously. Make a change today.

You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.’ Abraham Lincoln

Find your goal and make a plan. Other people can’t achieve your goal for you it’s yours. Make decisions about achieving your goal then give it your all, your mind, body & soul. Dedicate your heart to your passion and achieving it. You can create your dream reality, if you focus. Energy goes where intention flows.

Stop playing the victim and giving other people the power to change your life. And stop waiting for other people to make your life better, or make your dreams come true. You are the only one who can change your life.

You can choose to be happy, just as you can choose to be unhappy.

‘One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.’ Tony Robbins

Whatever happens, if it works, if it doesn’t, if you make mistakes… IT DOESNT MATTER. Mistakes are proof that you are trying. If you truly want to make a change realise that you can, believe in the beauty of your capabilities and make it happen. It wont be easy but it will be worth it.  Be prepared to learn, to grow and develop in your life. Be flexible, allow your direction to change as your life does.

‘It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. Aristotle Onassis

As I’m learning about business and working for yourself, I have realised I’ve been asking a lot of my friendships and from the people in my life, in terms of support and connections. I realised this when I was  experiencing a feeling of disappointment and being ‘let down’. I had to stop to think about where these emotions were coming from, what was occurring at the time and how much was I depending on other people to do the work for me? I soon realised, I had become dependant. I was utilising my support system as foundations of my business (rather then my internal strength) when they should simply be supporting structures (of a building, not 100% on this terminology, but Im sure you understand what I mean). My lesson, don’t rely on other people to do the work for you, they have their own lives to keep their focus on and no one can do what you do the way you do it.

1468706_10152113662923619_1138440331_nOne’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes… and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.’ Eleanor Roosevelt

Goals are dreams with a deadline. Consciously plant the positive seeds in your mind to support the beautiful garden of your mind. Plant seeds of strength. Belief. Faith. Realise what it is you dream of becoming, the life you dream of living then strive to succeed with perseverance and determination.

Dont just live your life, design a life you love to live.

Love & light, Charlie x.

Stop trying to control OTHER people…

“Everybody thinks of changing humanity, but nobody thinks of changing himself.” Leo Tolstoy

Do you find yourself disappointed in other people’s actions? Feeling let down or worse, betrayed? Perhaps you find yourself trying to control other people, frustrated when they choose to do what THEY want to do, which all to often is not what we would like them to do.

The truth is you cannot control other people and once you stop trying to by just letting them be, this is when the magic will happen. Those relationships, friendships and connections you have always wanted will blossom.

Everyone has their own set of morals and standards that they adhere to, thoughts and experiences in life so they can live their life in a way that they think is right. We are all different.

When you try to control or direct other people and the role they play in your life, this will only lead to disappointment. Sometimes, we believe we know what is best for other people, for their well-being. One of the hardest situations as a friend is to be a constant source of support, especially when you see the same mistake happening over and over again.

Controlling can be sourced from a desire of having things in order and perfectionism, but it can also be an ugly trait, co existing with manipulation, jealousy and low-self esteem.

Do you have high expectations because you expect more from people? As much as you give? I’m sorry to say but this can be a setting them up to fail, and setting yourself up for pain. Just let them be.

Let them be the master of their own destiny just as you are the master of yours. You can choose to be happy, today in this moment, your happiness is not found through other people. You create it with your thoughts, your actions.

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.” Gilda Radner

You can control your life. You can control who is in it. You can control what you do with it.

But you cannot control other people. We are all on our own journey. How do you know when it’s time to let go? You may find yourself in a situation where you are no longer moving together on your journeys perhaps it’s time to find your own direction. You can’t tie people to you, so they don’t find their own way through life. Find some independence.  Dont dwell on the change of friendships, relationships, people change. Find peace in the movement of people, many will come and go in your life. Just let go, remember what will be will be.

“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong.” Laura Ingalls Wilder

This is the beauty of life, the flow, the highs and lows. Start focusing in your own rather than other people’s.

Love & light, Charlie  x.

The thigh gap

Have we become so superficial we judge other people by the size of a gap between there thighs? Unfortunately the answer is yes.

One of the ongoing ‘it’ word when it comes to trends, I couldn’t help but speculate and of course express my thoughts.  The thigh gap was something previously only demanded of models, however it is now a rapidly spreading ‘want’ or desire by normal woman, young and old (not for the greater good).

‘Thinspiration’ has been breeding through online media for years to encourage followers to become unhealthily thin.

The size of a gap between your thigh; how can this possible define all that you are, all that you have been and all that you are yet to become (there’s absolutely no way it can)? Why are we so quick to judge, to claim these people with this gap as good or even worse…as an inspiration? Is it healthy, for most of us the answer is no. We are all different shapes and sizes, we have different bone structure.

Embrace who you are, the beautiful body that is yours. Its YOU-nique.

‘The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.’ Walt Disney

We cannot conform to to these ridiculous & unhealthy demands that society places on us. What will happen to our children (I havent been blesseed with children yet, but already Im concerned)? I imagine for mothers out there this is something you may be experiencing; teenage daughters facing the pressure of  being ‘popular’, facing demands placed upon us by airbrushed magazines, social media, and society. As an adult I find it difficult to distance myself and not get caught up in it, I can image how a teenage soul must feel.

After all, the ugly truth is, studies do show that life is easier when you are prettier and  slimmer, doors open for you that don’t open for others.

Can we make a change? When will accept our unique differences? When will we start to learn about good nutrition for ourselves, in schools funded by the government? When will we learn that your size does not define you? When will we STOP defining others by their size??

‘Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, its always your choice.’ Wayne Dyer

You are what you eat, every cell in your body is created from the food you eat, interesting thought. Your skin cells turnover every 28 days; what you indulged in last month, will show through your skin (Chinese face reading), were you good or not so good with your health choices? After relaxing a little on my normally strict diet, I’m taking sometime to allow my body to find it’s on balance, particularly as I’m going through what I believe to be the most exciting times of my life (good food as good fuel for optimal body function). No scales, no restrictions, just listening to my body, and the beautiful truth is, you feel and perform better when you make healthier choices.

‘Damn look at that thigh gap: no guy ever’.

The thigh gap, in my opinion is nothing more than the latest trend, a reason/excuse for women to eat poorly, if they eat at all, and attempt to lose weight. In the hope of being deemed pretty or successful. Of course a healthy body goes a long way, if you are what you eat; think about those blueberries on your daily quinoa. Full of antioxidants that will fight free radicals (damage) within you; you will feel better, look better and your body will love you for it by adjusting weight. The thigh gap, another method to create self image issues, eating disorders and bad mentality.

‘If your thighs touch then you’re one step closer to being a mermaid so who’s the real winner here?’

It’s time to make a change.

Monday Motivation…Amanda Rootsey

Monday, the day we all need a little motivation (sometimes). Today, Im sharing with you an extremely gorgeous soul who has battled cancer and now shares her passion to help others Shine from Within.

‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.’ Eleanor Roosevelt

About Amanda: I’m 28 and live in beautiful Noosa, Queensland. I have a business called Shine From Within where I teach girls about wellness, self-love, presentation, first impressions, skin care and lots more. It’s kind of like a deportment school with a twist!

NBB: You are a well-known Eco Model and Health/Wellness advocate. What do you attribute this success to?

I was modelling with Vivien’s Model Management for many years and while working in Europe I found a lump on my neck. When I came home and had it checked out it turned out to be Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer in the lymphatic system. This turned my world upside down and I started researching everything I could to help my body heal. It was the best thing ever (in hindsight!) because I became so passionate about the importance of healthy eating, self-love, peace and making the most of every moment. I got back to nature and the more I headed down this new wonderful path the more distance I felt from my old life. I didn’t think I would ever get back in to modelling because I wasn’t interested in helping people sell products and fashion that harmed animals, people and the planet. But there are so many beautiful companies out there that are trying to tread a little bit lighter on the planet and do things in an ethical manner, so I work exclusively with these companies and love shining a light on all that they do. So I think I can attribute my success as an eco-model and health/wellness advocate to having gone through a 2 year battle with cancer and coming out the other side with a new passion for life and a desire to create a beautiful world for future generations.

NBB: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

I decided to start blogging about my journey early on in my cancer diagnosis because I was coming across so much information that really blew me away. I couldn’t believe some of the stuff I was reading, particularly around the detrimental effects of meat and dairy. I went vegan straight away, started A Modern Girl’s Life (my blog) and my partner and I started Vegan Era as a way to share everything I was learning. It was a lonely time for me so I wanted to put something out there in case there were other young women going through something similar. It’s how I found beautiful soul sisters like Jess Ainscough, the Wellness Warrior.

‘I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.’ Audrey Hepburn

NBB: When did you decide to begin SHINE (from within) personal development school?

Shine From Within has been brewing for many years. I used to teach personal development courses and professional model training in schools and during school holidays back when I was modelling in Brisbane. I loved teaching but I never once thought I would actually start my own school! It wasn’t until I learned so much about the health side of things that I really wanted to help young girls realise the importance of taking care of themselves, each other and the planet. So the courses cover everything to help the girls look and FEEL their very best. We use all natural, local and organic products in the courses and I feel them delicious organic raw food so they can start to appreciate what good food tastes like!

NBB: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

Honestly I’ve never thought of myself as an inspirational figure! I’m just doing my thing.

NBB: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Definitely but that’s how we learn and grow. The biggest one was obviously cancer but there were lots of little battles in there too. For example, I really wanted to treat the cancer naturally and did so for about a year but eventually I had to have chemotherapy and radiation – something I was very much against in the beginning. But I realised that we all have our own journey and what works for some people doesn’t work for others and vice-versa. All we can do is our best and listen to our own intuition. We always know what is right for us if we take a moment to listen.

‘Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.’ Norman Vincent Peale

NBB: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

It’s a constant battle! I’m very good at taking on too much so I just try to monitor that, say no when I need to and make sure I do things that make me feel good every day. I don’t stick to a certain fitness regime or anything like that – I just try to move everyday. I love swimming in the ocean, going for runs in the national park, going to a bikram class and taking my gorgeous dog Trudi for big walks. I find journaling at night helps me to keep an eye on when I am getting a bit overwhelmed so that really helps me to maintain the balance.

‘Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you wont have to hunt for happiness.’ William E. Gladstone

NBB: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

I believe the keys to success in business are embracing your unique story, talents, gifts and not worrying too much about what everyone else is doing. Do what feels right, listen to that intuition and then get organised!! You have to be prepared to do the things that you don’t want to do sometimes too and you have to motivate yourself. Even when you do what you love there are days when you don’t want to do anything

NBB: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Put it down on paper and start working towards it, one step at a time.

NBB: What can we look forward to next from you?

I’ve got a Tweens course for 10-12 year olds starting on November 30th and then lots of courses happening throughout 2014 for teenage girls. I’ve had loads of enquiries for a course for adults too so that will be coming as well. I’m also working on an ebook and an online course for but that will be coming later in 2014 or early 2015. I’m always speaking at different events around Australia and writing about eco-living too at so stay tuned!

NBB: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

1. Listen to your body

2. Meditate

3. Be gentle with yourself

‘Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.’ Carl Gustav Jung

NBB: Share something no one knows…

Hmm…I tend to do my best work in the middle of the night – I’ve been fighting it for a while now but it just works for me! Lazy mornings and late nights working.

Self love Sunday…getting control.

The day of the week to be still and reflect on your life, to plan and make changes (I love Self love Sunday).

‘To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to ones family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control ones own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.’ Buddha

As Im reflecting, Ive noticed that I’ve created a dependence on food to feel a sense of control, eating until a sense of satiety takes over (ridiculous amounts). Not only this but I’ve falling into the ‘I don’t care’ category, filling myself with anything toxic. As I think about it, it scares me, I have never lost my own motivation in this way. Sugar, chocolate, chips and Ice cream. Now I’ve always been prone to a ‘cheat’ meal or two a habit  I have desperately been trying to break the circle of dieting. I believe in balance, but it’s always been the one or two, this time it’s been over 2 weeks where I haven’t gone longer than a few days without reaching for a sugary treat.

‘This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections.’ Saint Augustine

Where has this come from? After researching and discovering the many causes of out of control eating/over eating and binge eating I realised I had created this as my ‘go to’. As my world is changing (I currently have the luxury of not having to set an alarm any day or be anywhere at anytime except for yoga class and a few seminars weekly). I had created a dependence on food in lieu of a sense of routine (and I am an OCD/addictive personality). In times of being unsure we become dependant on other areas in our life that we can control; partners, substances, exercise (this was my normal addiction), good and bad habits.

So how do we break these bad habits and dependencies that come on so quickly they occur without us even realising?

Make a plan. Today is a new day, I’m using my self-love Sunday to write a commitment letter to myself. Just as a reminder; healthy is happy. And a reminder that I care for my wellbeing.

I know I feel better in my body and mind when I make healthier choices (junk foods create junk moods, I have found this to be true). I am the only one in control of my life and I can choose how to live it.

‘A man sooner or later discovers that he is the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life.’ James Allen

I also have to remind myself, it’s ok to make mistakes. For you see my whole life I have been involved in health and fitness, I live and breathe it, especially now as it’s my chosen career; the career I love. I will remind myself that it’s ok to slip up. Guilt is a bad thought that leads to bad emotions. Which only then lead to more of your bad habit (such a terrible cycle).

Let go of the guilt. The pressure to be perfect (all the time). Life is made to be lived; we live and we learn.

‘The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.’ Albert Ellis

As I reflect, making my plan, I’m thinking about the triggers; a bad day, lack of motivation, and for me personally; the hope of something blossoming into a relationship that didn’t (rejection, something I deal with poorly). I have determined this has been, amongst others, the trigger to my low self-esteem, ‘I’m not good enough’ thoughts. Why, when this time of my life, (everything is amazing) this particular person doesn’t want to be involved? . These thoughts can lead to hurt, sadness and a negative downward spiral. But it’s ok to feel them sometimes, just know when it’s time to stop (today).

Today, is my time, I’m choosing to not give my power, my self-love away to someone, away to the addictive chemicals in ‘bad’ food. Instead I’m going to write My Commitment letter and reflect on everything that is amazing in my life, because I am truly blessed. I’m starting a 28 day ‘clean’ program. Not a Diet. In 28 days it will be my 30th birthday and I’m hoping the release of my book; Live a life you love (fingers crossed). What better motivation, to be the very best version of myself.

What are you committed to? Where is your focus? What can you do today to make a change in your life?

‘As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no longer the need to have a sense of control, that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow with them, to your great delight and benefit.’ Emmanuel Teney

I am the only one who can create my dream reality, and I have the faith, knowledge and belief that I will. Mistakes do not define me, they empower me.

Love and light, Charlie x.

I’m off to spend the day doing the absolute final (scary and exciting) read though of my Manuscript.

The chemistry of Love.

As Im living my life, a particular discussion keeps reoccuring, regardless of age or status, is how do you know if he’s Mr Right (or she)?

‘Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.’ Robert Frost

Do we live in an era that butterflies can still be felt, or are we keeping our hearts so protected that the oppourtunity of love at first sight barely exists?

We seem to be waiting for ‘the one’, but how do you know when that person is ‘the one’, are you supposed to know when you first meet them, or is it something you have to discover over time?

We are led astray by the romantic movies, giving us high hopes of what true love should be like, when in reality if you ask anyone who lives in love, a successful relationship, it takes hard work, commitment and persistance.

The spark; fireworks, butterflies, do they exist or are they a myth?

“If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.” -Anonymous

I can say I am lucky enough to have experienced this before, the butterflies of nervous excitement when seeing a special someone, the tingle on your skin from a gentle touch, even the way that their eyes can look into your soul.

The ‘spark’ is chemistry. Chemistry between two people that is created when they share a special connection.

‘At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.’ Plato

When we have chemistry with someone it can be on a physical, sexual, or mental level, an automatic sense of feeling welcomed and free in this persons company. No chemistry can mean you find it difficult to relate to a person, or have little in common with them.

The love ‘butterflies’, ‘fireworks’ and ‘spark’ have physical symptoms; your blood pressure will rise, cheeks will blush, you may become flustered as adrenalin is increased, you experience pleasure and excitement.

One of the interesting (& my favourite) facts; falling in love can cause a release of phenylethylamine or PEA (also found in chocolate)

Pea is a stimulant much like amphetamine that releases feel good hormones; Dopamine and Norepinephrine (this can explain why sometimes if your love life is a little low in the activity scales, you may crave chocolate). Dopamine then stimulates the release of Oxytocin, also known as the ‘cuddle’ hormone (provides a sense of comfort and wellbeing).

Do we set ourselves up for failure or loneliness because we expect and want the spark? Is it ok to settle?

‘Some people are settling down, some people are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies’. Carrie Bradshaw

1459674_10152094055518619_998336447_nWe use ‘there was no spark’, ‘the sparks gone’ as reasons why we end relationships, when really its most likely due to another factor, did you get bored or did you just give up trying? In the world we live in we are told never to settle, to expect the very best, this is the message that is drilled into us by our parents from a young age or from the media as we grow older; that we can be anything we dream of being. Has this had an effect of our inability to choose an appropriate lover? Are we too busy waiting for more?

Can you have a successful relationship without the spark? There really is no right or wrong answer. Many successful marriages are arranged, many unsuccessful marriages had spark and nothing else in common (this describes my past relationship).

‘Falling in love and having a relationship are two different things.’ Keanu Reeves

As always, these are just my thoughts about life and in particular love that seems to be a hugely misunderstood concept these days.

My personal advice, get rid of your lists ladies, focus on living your own life to the very best you can and just let whatever be. Men, try to act with integrity, all women really want is love, a sense of protection and honesty.

“But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.” Carrie Bradshaw

Sending you all some love & light, Charlie x.

and a little giggle…

My Yoga Matt…my Magic Carpet.

Last night during our yoga class we were invited to make our intention…Triumph, to celebrate every small ‘win’ we have in our life, for having a better day than yesterday, for choosing happier thoughts, healthier foods, for making it to the yoga matt (in yoga you are welcomed to set an intention/focus for your class, whatever it is that you are needing today, in this moment of your life).

Some of you may know, I have made a commitment to my yoga practice; 5 x per week. I do believe that yoga changed my life in ways I couldn’t begin to imagine over 12 months ago (I would try to practice 1-2 x per week then). Now, as my life is immensely changing I wanted some form of structure, so I choose yoga (I am also lucky enough to have the flexibility to fit this into my current work/life schedule), the most rewarding practice for my mind, body and soul during one of the most exhilarating, special and possibly scariest times of my life.

Now, I come from an athletic background, I love feeling my body work, pushing it to its limits, running; long distance, sprints, weights etc. Therefore, Yoga for me is extremely challenging, to keep my active mind focused on and in my practice.

Its been over a month now since Ive made my comitement and keeping it (probably one of the longest commitments Ive kept in a while), and I have been experiencing a new feeling, something out of this world.

‘Mindfulness helps you go home to the present. And every time you go there and recognize a condition of happiness that you have, happiness comes’. Thich Nhat Hanh

As I lay on my matt, my body is automatically filled with a sense of familiarity, of thanks, it nearly feels like a ‘hello’, a sense of ‘welcome’. I presume this is because as I continue my practice I am starting to reap the rewards of which there are many, and my body senses this as I am welcomed onto my matt, ready to experience the joys of yoga.

In Aladdin, Aladin says to Princess Jasmine ‘Its a magic carpet, lets get out of the palace, see the world’.

My yoga matt is my magic carpet, it offers me a whole new world, filled with love, peace and positivity.

‘I can open your eyes, take you  wonder by wonder. On a magic carpet ride, a whole new world, a new fantastic point of view, no one to tell us no or where to go, or say were only dreaming, a whole new word, a dazzling place a I never knew.’ Aladdin

You create a sense of connection between your mind, body and soul on your yoga matt. Yes, there are struggles, to keep focused and present is part of the practice that is yoga. It’s important to find a yogi and studio you connect with, this will make the difference to your practice, whether you enjoy it or dread it.

“I have been a seeker and I still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars. I started listening to the teaching of my Soul.” Rumi

I practice at Flow Athletic ( and my favourite yogi is Lynsey W. She speaks to us as we hold postures, struggling between feeling the fire within our body and keeping focus within the mind. She speaks about celebrating the feeling, last night she said ‘its called yoga practice, not yoga perfect’, I couldnt help but smile, all to often as we attempt these postures that the yogis make look effortless, we become so serious, demanding on our bodies trying to force our way into the posture.

Yoga is a reward. My yoga matt my transportation to a better world.

Central Park Urban Yoga

In this world I am free from negativity, free from stress, I am filled with love and peace. For yoga teaches you how to be calm in the midst of a storm (situation), that no matter what happens or where you are on your own life journey, you can always return to this place of peace, your yoga matt adn generate a feeling of love and wellbeing within yourself.

‘When you find peace within yourself, you become th kind of person who can live at peace with others’. Peace Pilgrim

‘A whole new world, unbelievable sights, indescribable feeling.’ Aladin

Shavasna is the final posture (destination) in yoga practice and I’ve recently been finding myself filled with something that feels like (I imagine) light would feel, I am filled with a sense of bliss, so much so I’ve begun to notice that I lay with a gentle smile on my lips, in my eyes and in my heart.

Yoga practice, not perfect. Thank you, you are changing my life and allowing me to become a better version of myself.

‘Love and magic have a great deal in common. They enrich the soul, delight the heart. And they both take practice.’ Unknown

Love & light, Charlie x.

Let me share this whole new world with you.

Medical practice; how good is it?

It’s now been over a year I have been dealing with a personal health situation with still no answer.

I wanted to express my thoughts and my understanding to those who are in a similar situation, or even worse.

Whilst it isn’t life threatening at this stage, my issue  has had a huge impact on other areas of my life, and my mental health (not to mention my finances).

“Those who are without compassion cannot see what is seen with the eyes of compassion.”  Thich Nhat Hanh

As we put out trust into the medical system, led to believe that they have the answers, how are we meant to feel when the answers we receive are: no explanation, more tests required, I cant tell you why?

It has been through my own process of trying to determine the cause of a digestive issue (some of you close to me know, but I generally tend to always look like I’m 3 months pregnant, sometimes more depending on food). After seeing specialists, gastroentologists, naturopaths and nutritionists, being recommend medication for paraplegic’s to full Fod maps diets; no gluten; no diary; no sugar diets….still with no solution and no reason for cause, I can say it becomes more than a little disheartening. To feel pain with no explanation, no see distension in your own body, leaves you feeling less than happy, hoping to understand what is causing it.

In a review 1 in 6 patients will visit a Dr with digestive issues.

Does this not send a loud signal to not only our government but the medical world that something we are doing is WRONG?

“The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.”  Voltaire

Personally, I have tried it all; I tried the medication that I was given after a transit study, the specialist had no reason for the cause wasn’t interested in finding it but happy to give me a drug that ‘should’ work (it didn’t, and I realise this may be part because of my own mind mentality of not wanting drugs in my body, especially without treating the cause). A standard GP who was quick to write a script for a course of serious and intense antibiotics for a period of 2 weeks (with no recommendation of cultivating any good bacteria with a probiotic), to the nutritionist who recommended a full FOD map diet (no consumption of specific foods that cause fermented gas in the stomach), no gluten, no alcohol, no sugar (I did commit to this for 3 weeks, and can honestly say it was very difficult and limited with no result).

I can begin to understand why people have little faith in those who invest years to develop knowledge about the human body.

I love to read and do my own research this can sometimes be beneficial, but also detrimental as there is so much information out there. The more you research a particular issue the more confused you can become, just as with nutrition or anything in your life, there will be many reasons why it is the most amazing thing (EVER), and many that claim it to be the worst.

The digestive system is the beginning of all disease. From bad bacteria (of which we need some), equalling malabsorption of nutrients, creating toxins and unbalance within the body to serious disease. It is one of the least understood systems in the body.

Instead of diet, what if we looked at the properties in food, the times best food types are digested, with different food partnering? This is something I am now looking at.

As I’ve had everyone from family, friends (who are all fabulously fit and share a passion for knowledge and learning), to the specialist and naturopaths find problems but no solution or cause, you get to a point of beyond frustration.

“Always laugh when you can, it is cheap medicine.”  George Gordon Byron

Curious, the digestive system in eastern philosophy can be dictated to by our emotions. If you find you have had problems with digestion, this can relate to life experiences such as resistance to letting go, or releasing things in your life. Intriguing thought (if you know I’m still working through some issues remaining from a bad relationship and healing my heart). In fact, my next visit,  if I decide to pursue this will be to a kinesiologist; the combination of eastern and western medicine.

I’ve even flown interstate to see (an expensive) holistic dr, still with no answers; ‘I just don’t understand’.

So my personal advice for anyone who is dealing with these situations, and as I mentioned I do sympathize, especially with those dealing with life threatening situations, is sometimes, just follow your internal instinct.

Return to clean natural eating. Get your body moving, keep up your h2o, and maybe you’ll be surprised at how the body will return to its natural balance that is homeostasis (it naturally wants to be here and will always try to return to this place of balance), give it the tools/food/nutrients to do so.

‘The greatest force in the human body is the natural drive of the body to heal itself–but that force is not independent of the belief system.  Everything begins with belief.  What we believe is the most powerful option of all.’ Norman Cousins

It’s not about giving up, it’s about having faith in the miracle that is your gorgeous body (believe me I know this is hard). For me, I’m giving my beautiful body the reward of taking a break from intense dieting, supplements, intense training and just letting it be. A kg or 2 (or 5, oops), what does it matter? Ease up on yourself and remember there’s so much more in life to focus on; the good.

Studies show that a positive mind and a positive body can heal more than you think possible.

Believe (I am). Energy goes where intention lies.

‘To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.’ Buddha

Monday Motivation…Nicole Joy Inspire

I am so excited to have this amazing woman as todays Monday Motivation. Nicole has personally inspired me to make things happen in my own life and always, always a kind word to say. She is not only stunning on the outside but radiant on the inside.

You have recently created immense change in your life? Please describe how this feels?

Incredible! Doing what you love and loving what you do is a game changer. I wasn’t truly passionate about the business I was in prior to starting up Nicole Joy Inspire and making the switch to what I truly love and what essentially is just an extension of who I am is very liberating. And highly recommended!

‘I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.’ Arthur Rubinstein

How does it feel to successfully achieve your goals?

There’s nothing quite like watching something you built from the ground up flourish into something successful! I have started everything from my own line of jewellery and a men’s t-shirt label to my own brand of luxury sleepwear. I started modelling in 2005 after I won the Miss World QLD title, but (not surprisingly), the modelling and TV world can be very harsh and I began to resent the fact that my income and job opportunities were limited by someone else’s opinion of me. I wanted to be the ‘master of my own destiny’ so to speak – so I started my own companies. Where I had full control and my looks had nothing to do with how much I could potentially earn.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Of course! No success story is complete without them. It’s not a question of if you get challenged – it’s inevitable, it’s how you react to those challenges that is key. In the last 3 years of running my sleepwear label, I learned more about business than any degree could have taught me. I made mistakes, spent A LOT of money and found myself crying in a heap on my bedroom floor, wondering how I was going to pay the bills more times than I care to remember!

The retail game was a tough one and when I was being completely honest with myself – not my true passion. So I decided to get real, get honest and get back to basics. FOOD. I am Italian and some of the fondest memories I have are in the kitchen with my mum and my nonna. (Although I am not sure what nonna would have thought of raw desserts!)  Friends became my guinea pigs and my recipes quickly went from mid-week taste testing on the lounge  room floor to being sold in health food stores and local cafés. Those recipes are the foundations for my book.

‘When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.’ Unknown

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

Sometimes it can be difficult – especially when things are moving full steam ahead and you feel as though if you stop, even just for a moment, that you will miss out on opportunities. Meditation, yoga and walking my puppy are always great ‘time outs’ for me!

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

It feels wonderful and truly satisfying to know that I am making a difference, to someone somewhere. I knew that I wanted to do that for such a long time, I just didn’t know what vehicle would help me do that. Being a teacher, I have always had that innate ability to relate to people from all walks of life, so to be able to reach so many people through my blog and now my book is a real blessing.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” Oscar Wilde

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Time management, clear goals and the determination and persistence to keep going when you get knocked down.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Figure out your ‘why?’ WHY do you want to achieve that? HOW will it impact your life? WHAT will your world be like when you achieve it and WHY is it so important? When you are really clear on that you will be motivated like never before and no one will be able to stand in  your way!

When can we look forward to next from you?

Well I already have an idea for book number 2! At the moment we are working on a short video series and some exciting collaborations with some fabulous companies!

Self Love Sunday..give thanks.

Self love Sunday, the day of the week to truly do something for you.

Today, Im taking a moment to stop and give thanks. Ive been so busy creating change, falling in love with my life and taking every opportunity presented to me, I wanted to thank myself for everything (good and bad) that I am creating.

‘Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.’ Epicurus

How often to we ever just say ‘thank you’?

Thank you for:

Choosing healthier foods today.

Thank you for exercising.

Thank you for reading motivational quotes/books.

Thank you for having that difficult conversation.

Thank you for living in the moment.

Thank you for letting go of the past.

Thank you for taking the extra time to care for yourself.

‘When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.’ Tecumseh

Take a moment to appreciate yourself. I understand that to live your life well is hard work, it takes daily dedication, daily thought changing and consistence. But it is worth it.

Take a moment to say thank you for all the hard work you are doing to live a better life, to become the best version of yourself. This is not acting with your ego, this is an act of self love. We strive to feel appreciated by others for the things we do for them, why dont we appreciate all the things we do for ourselves for a moment?

By honouring our commitment and appreciating our effort we begin to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Something that we can always have more of. Gratitude for everything in our life, for everything we are blessed with. Even, the things you determine are ‘bad’, you have created them for a reason, to learn something or from a need within you. Be grateful.

‘Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, know that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.’ Brian Tracy

I know this may feel a little selfish, but its important to feel a sense of accomplishment and achievement when you are creating change in your life. Accept that where you are is in your life, is exactly where you should be, and appreciate that every small healthy habit, every small positive thought is a step towards living the life you dream of.

When something good happens, think a thankful thought.

Thank you for allowing good into your life. Thank you for creating opportunities. Thank you for choosing positive thoughts.

“We don’t realize that, somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme self who is eternally at peace.”
―Elizabeth Gilbert

Today, Im thankful for opening my heart (my biggest fear), and allowing new opportunities into my life.

Love & light, Charlie x.
