If its worth having, it wont be easy.

What some people don’t tell you when you create your own business/chase your dreams/work for yourself…

*It can be hard to self motivate…everyday.

*It can be challenging to always search for the positive in a negative situation.

*You have to fake it til you make it.

*You have to let go of the guilt when you make mistakes.

*You will make them. Plenty of them.

‘I am not the richest, smartest or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going.’ Sylvester Stallone

*Its not easy to always be your own greatest fan.

*You have to find a source of strength and resilience within yourself.

*You will have to actively change any self doubt thoughts to self belief thoughts, the minute they start to occur.

*You will have to say I CAN in a world that will tell you you cant.

{AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT}

‘Determination gives you the resolve to keep going in spite of the roadblocks that lay before you.’ Dennis Waitley

We view people, our inspirations, mentors, and the great leaders with such awe and a ‘how did they do it’ attitude. What we don’t realise is what they have endured to achieve their great success. In fact I personally love to read, listen to these success stories. Recently I heard about the creator of Carmens muesli who after 5 years in business (she started in her garage) was out doing deliveries and ran out of petrol, and she had no money to refuel. But she found a way to keep going and do what needed to be done, and now Carmens is a nationwide known entity.

Its been nearly a year of working for myself and it has easily been the best, the most challenging, self developing and learnt, (yes I realise that isnt correct english), interesting, happy year of my life.

quit1

But yes, it has been challenging, in fact there are many days when I want to crawl back into bed (today for example, feeling completely exhausted) or contemplate just going back to a paid career.

The easy way out. (You can never fail if you never quit).

What I have found to be of utmost importance is to create your world with motivational triggers, inspiration go to sources; emotional, mental and physical that you can reach for in your time of need. Because there are times you dont want to do what needs to be done. There are days where your light might not be shining so bright. There are days where you question what do you think your doing?

Today I needed this:

{The below is reposted from Dan Waldschmidt}

You have to make the call you’re afraid to make.

You have to get up earlier than you want to get up.

You have to give more than you get in return right away.

You have to care more about others than they care about you.

You have to fight when you are already injured, bloody, and sore.

You have to feel unsure and insecure when playing if safe seems smarter.

You have to lead when no one else is following you yet.

You have to invest in yourself even though no one else is.

You have to look like a fool while you’re looking for answers you don’t have.

You have to grind out the details when it’s easier to shrug them off.

You have to deliver results when making excuses is an option.

You have to search for your own explanations even when you’re told to accept the “facts”.

You have to make mistakes and look like an idiot.

You have try and fail and try again.

You have to run faster even though you’re out of breath.

You have to be kind to people who have been cruel to you.

You have to meet deadlines that are unreasonable and deliver results that are unparalleled.

You have to be accountable for your actions even when things go wrong.

You have to keep moving towards where you want to be no matter what’s in front of you.

You have to do the hard things.

The things that no one else is doing. The things that scare you. The things that make you wonder how much longer you can hold on.

Those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between living a life of mediocrity or outrageous success.

The hard things are the easiest things to avoid. To excuse away. To pretend like they don’t apply to you.

The simple truth about how ordinary people accomplish outrageous feats of success is that they do the hard things that smarter, wealthier, more qualified people don’t have the courage — or desperation — to do.

Do the hard things. You might be surprised at how amazing you really are.

WOW. Yes, definitely going on my vision board as a daily ‘JUST DO IT” mantra. You see, I truly believe that you have it within you to be anything that you dream of becoming (and I have it within me), you just have to be prepared to do what you dont like doing, give up on some of the things you enjoy (for me, my passion for fashion is compromised at the moment) and FOCUS everything on your goal.

Love & Light, Charlie x.

Time to get into my admin/figures/reporting.

Monday Motivation…Jackie Dunn {Fire and Shine}

Monday!!! Hello. I am ready for you with open arms, an open heart and a ‘lets kick ass’ attitude.

As times change, I have found that business is about you. You are your brand. People will purchase from you, and support you if they like YOU. Your passion, your drive, your beliefs.

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

Today feature is the beautiful team from Fire and Shine, ethical fitness and yoga wear, who both have a deep burning passion that you can just feel.

Business, its about surrounding yourself with people who inspire you and sharing love.

Fire and Shine photo

You have created a rapidly growing business; Fire and Shine/ethical fitness fashion, what do you attribute this success to?

Jane and I are very passionate about ethically made activewear and have been fortunate to have partnered with some amazing brands who also have the same values. We want to make it easy for people to do some good and feel like they are making a difference to the world we live in.

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

Jane and I met at Yoga Teacher training 4 years ago and our journey will never end with our practice. We both had active lives before yoga teacher training with Jane being a triathlete and me doing boxing, personal and weight training. We have been grateful for the health and wellness people we have met and to those people we will meet on our journey.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?”  Marianne Williamson

When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself?

We both have always had the thought of having our own businesses, it just so happened that 1 year ago the idea developed to start Fire and Shine.

“Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words And never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

It’s very humbling and we are grateful that we are seen as mentors and are inspiring people to follow their passions and dreams.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Oh where do we start! Yes, we like to call them opportunities and Jane and I enjoy being able to make decisions and feel empowered to drive our business. Our biggest challenge is ensuring we have a positive work life balance.

“Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.” | Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

We both always make time for our yoga practice. Meditation and breath work is also part of finding the balance. Being active is part of our routine and we make time for it every day.

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Believe in what you are doing, find something you are passionate about and find other like-minded people to talk to about it, celebrate the wins – no matter how small they are!, be grateful for whoever and whatever crosses your path, the universe has delivered it for a reason.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that it can’t be done, manifest abundance.

When you begin to believe in the beauty of your dreams, other people will believe in you to.

A love lost.

Lately I’ve been finding myself a little caught up in the past. You know when you seem to keep re thinking things, how they occurred, moments that have passed.

‘Love is the most beautiful thing to have, hardest thing to earn and most painful thing to lose.’ Unkown

loved7

Obviously not the best place for any of our thoughts to be.

As I’m here building my empire (you have to speak what you believe for it to come true), I’m finding it more and more difficult to find someone to connect with (#love). As the difficulty increases I spend my time (as we all do) evaluating myself, my tendencies to love, to pull away (my current strike rate is 1 date and your out) I cant help but contemplate if I’ve had my great love. That one person who would do anything for ou, who creates their world to make yours better, that one person who is your number one believer, supporter. The one who was always there when it mattered.

loved9

Im referring to my ‘good’ ex. I speak often about my ‘bad’ ex, the one who betrayed my love and trust. But I don’t often speak about the one who I betrayed.

‘You will never know true happiness until you have truly loved, and you will never understand what pain really is until you have lost it.’ Anonymous

dating2

During that not so good time of my life, caught up with my bad ex, his multiple other woman, lies and mental abuse, I was lucky enough to meet someone who was so kind, so in love with me (I never knew why), someone who was my best friend. Yet, I never appreciated him, his time or his love. I wasnt a nice person, actually far from it. I didn’t give him the love he deserved (He’s now engaged and I know he will be an amazing husband, father and wish him and his fiance all the love and happiness that I never gave him).

“The bad things in life open your eyes to the good things you weren’t paying attention to before.”
“Good Will Hunting”

I cant help but contemplate if I’m now/still receiving my karma, from all those years of mistreating him, whilst believing my ‘bad’ ex, Mr Wrong was the right love…am I now paying the price? The struggle to find someone to connect with is real (also there is a study that shows there is a shortage of men in Sydney). Its easy to find someone to share your bed with, but your hopes and dreams and inner fears, not so…this is reality. {yes, i want Marvin Gaye, flowers…romance #highexpectations}

It can sometimes take us a long time to realise what we lose. It’s then the hardest part to recover from that loss, but for me its the guilt I am holding onto. As I create change in my life, give love, share love and build my world, I cant help but have self doubt as I know I wasnt always this person, (I think) kind, loving, ‘nice’.

k2

‘Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.” Sonia Ricotti

But that’s the beauty of life…we have the power, the opportunity to create it, everyday, every thought, every word we speak.

So, as I process my guilt, my regret I can only wish my lost love all the very best and work through releasing my thoughts, knowing that he is now happier than I ever could have made him. And after all, isnt that the true sign of love… their happiness?

“Trying to forget someone you love is like trying to remember someone you never met.” Unknown

And hopefully everyday that I do good will help rebuild my own love karma.

It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Love & light, Charlie x.

Show someone you love & appreciate that you do today. A cute text message (those smiles ;), an extra long hug, a beautiful meal. Say ‘I love you’.

Monday Motivation…Femme Fatale {Joelle Christie}

Summer. is. coming.

Ugh oh. Time to put down the delicious nutrient dense superfood smoothies and switch to clean green juices.

One of the latest (and growing rapidly) trends…fitness modeling. Some of you may know I used to compete, but not anymore, Im trying to find my own balance (and look after my hormones for, hopefully, one day a family).

So inspired by this, I wanted to feature someone who motivates me, someone who is always in good shape, is always smiling and is genuinely ‘lovely’ (yes, my favourite word of the moment).

Introducing the beautiful Joelle Christie, Inba Bikini Pro Model.

joelle2

You have created a rapidly growing business; and your own profile as Joelle Christine Fitness Model, in the fitness & health industry, what do you attribute this success to?
I guess it all comes down to the fact that I’m a very normal and average person and I share all the struggles and challenges that I face and people are able to relate to that. So many people only share their highlights on social media and that can unintentionally cause others to look at their own life in a negative way. By showing the good and the bad that I go through I hope to inspire others and make them realise that health, fitness and happiness is achievable and attainable by everyone.

1478974_10152094055013619_463096913_n

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?
Well I went through a period where I was extremely unhappy because I wasn’t eating right and wasn’t exercising and all of that caused me to have no confidence or self-esteem. And those things can impact you not only physically but also mentally. One day I stumbled upon some photos of a fitness model and she looked so happy, healthy and confident that I decided then to change my life. I joined a gym, started a program and after a while decided that I wanted to compete in a Bikini Fitness Competition. I started working towards that and was successful at the competition and the rest is history!

‘In seeking happiness for others, you find it for yourself.’ Anonymous

When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself?
I’m still at Uni (studying law and business) so at the moment my fitness ‘ventures’ are a side project but someday I wish to combine my degree and love for fitness and create something special. I’m not sure what it is yet but watch this space!

‘Energy and persistence conquer all things.’ Benjamin Franklin

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I’m honoured that some look to me for inspiration and I hope that I am able to continue to inspire and motivate them as they in return motivate and inspire me. I’m just a normal and average girl who had a big dream and is making it come true so I want to be able to help others to find their passion and be happy.

1535652_645590698836791_224394429_n

Has there been any challenges along your journey?
Of course! One of the biggest challenges I faced was to find a method of dieting which worked for me (I now do flexible dieting and am very happy). I also faced some negativity regarding my decision to compete from some people but sometimes events like these show people’s true colours and can help to make your life a more positive place.
There’s been heaps of business related challenges too, and I guess it all comes down to showing companies that by working together you are able to add value to their business as they add value to yours.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?
Just keep the big picture in mind. Allowing stress to impact on your health isn’t worth it in the long run so just take a breath, surround yourself with supportive people and remember what you’re working towards.

‘Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.’ Norman R. Augustine

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?
I think the key to success in business is passion. If you find something that you love and are passionate about then this love and passion will lead to success. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, then you will be successful” (Albert Schweitzer).

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?
Surround yourself with supportive people, surround yourself with those than are also dreamers and know that there will be challenges but if you persevere then you will make your dream come true.

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” Arnold Schwarzenegger

Top 3 healthy tips/advice?
1. Health and fitness is not a number on the scale – focus on how you feel rather than what you weigh.
2. Live a balanced life; treat yourself well and treat yourself. Eat healthy food and enjoy the occasional indulgence.
3. Hit your macronutrients and your micronutrients. Eat your vegetables!

Recently I have been overwhelmed by the pure kindness, support and love from some special people in my life.

Today’s inspired writing is for them in hope of sharing a smile and some magic and perhaps to inspire you to show your appreciation for the love in your life.

True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. So rare, I can count them easily, the people who I know will always be there, the ones that love me unconditionally, and hold my hand and support me (even when they know what I may be doing could be a huge mistake, recent journey to the past, point).

Easy access…Antidepressants

I’m feeling a little vulnerable as I write this blog, but I just felt I had to share this experience.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” Helen Keller

To some, my life would appear to be a dream; I’ve created a product that people genuinely seem to like & want to be a part of, I’m fit, I have a beautiful family, I was a model (not anymore), I have a support network that includes some of the most well known fitness, health and inspirational figures, and Im living my life my way.

1480705_10151809543065679_338528119_n

It’s all to easy to look at someones life from the outside, from their social media ‘highlight’ reel and make judgement, or create an opinion about that person. Staying true to myself and the purpose of my blog…this highlight reel is often not all it’s cracked up to be, even mine.

‘If you don’t think your anxiety, depression, sadness and stress impact your physical health, think again. All of these emotions trigger chemical reactions in your body, which can lead to inflammation and a weakened immune system. Learn how to cope, sweet friend. There will always be dark days.’ Kris Carr

Sure all of the above are true, but what about viewing my life from the inside out? My heart still hurts for a love that wasnt reciprocated (insecurity), I am creating a business on my own (instability), I surround myself with people who are inspirational figures (pressure), my family isn’t as close as I would want them to be, and I very rarely let anyone ; friends or lovers close to my heart as I’m petrified of being hurt (loneliness), which in turn makes me a #1datewonder.

Now these are 2 very outlooks on my life, 1 is positive, 1 is not so. Yet they are both very much my reality.

depression6

I have written and spoken about my depression.

What you may not know, is I was meant to be and still am supposed to be tested for Border Line Personality disorder (basically this means it’s either white or black, good or bad, there is no balance).

As my business continues to become a reality (who would have thought my empire would be built on #balls), so to does the financial stress, the responsibilities and the very real fear of failure. As I began to experience the well-known traits of depression and self sabotage (for me this over eating thing is out of control at the moment) became apparent, I knew I had to speak to someone.

Sometimes that’s all we need… someone to really listen to us.

Anxious, excited and knowing I was doing the right thing, off I went to my Dr for a full blood test and Psychologist referral (I don’t have one in Sydney).

‘What you believe is very powerful. If you have toxic emotions of fear, guilt and depression, it is because you have wrong thinking, and you have wrong thinking because of wrong believing.’ Joseph Prince

What surprised me as I was tearfully telling my story (if you need to cry, just cry), was the recommendation for antidepressants, not once but at least 4 times the conversation was redirected to ‘pills’ for my hormonal imbalance. He advised that I am depressed (which I am quite sure that I’m not, simply looking for some advice, someone to speak to, to express myself to).

I STRONGLY DO NOT ADVOCATE ANTI DEPRESSANTS.

Was he even listening to me??? I was in disbelief, after all that I was telling him; my clean eating lifestyle, my health coaching, seminars…he still tried to (I felt) ‘push’ medication onto me.

Now, I understand they do work for some people and considering there seems to be a natural imbalance in my brain they should work for me. However, my last incidence with these drugs at 100mg had me sitting on the edge of my balcony at 4am in the morning thinking my life was not worth living. Do I want to take them again, or try find the right one…Ummm…..NO?

I felt I had to write this as it really was a revealing experience, I mean Ive experienced this before, when I happily and eagerly took the antidepressants and the valium which I then created a dependence on. What about any person without so much knowledge, what hope do they have when their medical ‘professional’ advises these drugs???

The world we live in.

Exercise and food are the most under utilised drug. This is true.

‘Good humour is a tonic for mind nad body. It is the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment,’ Grenville Kleiser

detox1

All I was simply requesting was a referral to see a psychologist (i truly promote them as a personal trainer for your mind), someone I could talk to that isn’t in my world, about my pressures, frustrations and feelings without judgement. Yet I nearly walked out of there drugged up.

If anything I only feel more inspired to create change, to educate about the way we live (yes, I got my referral). Im not using this post to ask for sympathy or pity, simply as an expression of my thoughts.

“Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them — every day begin the task anew.”Saint Francis de Sales

The truth is, the world aint all sunshine and rainbows…but its how you choose to act when you don’t feel so good that will define you.

Love & light, Charlie x.

*Note…It is ok to not be ‘amazing’ all the time, in fact it’s perfectly normal. And I can tell you this…everything will be ok, it always will be ok.

{My first} Meditation.

We hear the words’ oh you must try meditation’, ‘meditation, is so good’… etc, often. Especially if we are stressed it’s quite common (well for me and the world I live in) to hear these recommendations, about the greatness of meditation.

‘The purpose of meditation is personal transformation.’ Henepola Gunaratana

sls3

Surprising as it may or may not be, I’m the type or personality that simply thinking of sitting still for 20 whole minutes simply petrifies me,

Although of course Ive done the research, heard the ‘meditation changed my life’ stories, I simply resisted it. Perhaps a sign I needed it. However I do know I’m not the only person to feel this angst when it comes to practicing meditation. Is it because it’s hyped up to be something you do for enlightenment, the monks practice mediation several times a day? Is it because you are meant to not think??? (this is my issue). Is it because it seems to crazy, hippy, for lack of a better word.

‘Meditation makes the entire nervous system go into a field of coherence.’ Deepak Chopra

For myself, mediation looks sacred. It looks like there is an art, I mean who can sit for 20 minutes without thinking thoughts of what they are about to eat, what they have to do that day, what did he really mean in the text…It looks hard.

Mediation with all its glory and benefits is simply focusing on the breath. Learning to focus your intention and thoughts on one thing, this is called focused mediation (there is also mindful meditation, simply sitting and being aware of your environment with no reaction). It really is simple (not always easy, as its natural your monkey mind will try to distract you, but the practice itself is simple).

1468590_10152084130418619_441314917_n

‘Meditation is all about the pursuit of nothingness. Its like the ultimate rest. Its better than the best sleep youve ever had. Its a quieting of the mind. It sharpens everything, especially your appreciation of your surroundings. It keeps life fresh.’ Hugh Jackman

Today, I practised my very own {guided, from an app called Omvana} 20 minute practice…for the first time ever!!! And it was amazing!!! I was sitting, smiling, peaceful and content. What I also loved about this particular guided mediation was the 6 phases it went through, including gratefulness, visualisation and release (these are all the things I do promote daily).

krsitie4

I must admit I had set myself an intention to practice every morning (as I’m taking time off from my morning cardio to get more sleep and balance my hormones/sugar cravings), which I have failed at. I practised once on Tuesday with a 5 minute guided meditation and now today with 20 minutes. Still twice is better than nothing.

‘Meditation is the life of the soul: Action, the soul of mediation; and honor the reward of action.’ Francis Quarles

kristie3

Next week, Im going to start with 5 minutes every day (making a commitment after todays experience), hoping that this will lead me into 10 minutes, 15, then 20 per day (some people do recommend 20 minutes 2 x per day, but remember it is your life, its about what works for you). As you may know by know, I am a big believer of what we think, we become and our thoughts create our world…so why not start planting seeds of positivity, of love, of happiness in your mind with a morning meditation everyday? (I used to use my morning movement/cardio time for this).

So whilst we can make excuses such as I don’t have time (genuinely a sign you need to get to practice), I don’t know how (find a class or download an app or simply sit still and focus on your breathing), meditation is the greatest secret of all. Being able to actively create light within your body/mind/heart, to release negative thoughts and replace them with love, to be able to commit to a practice that is a beautiful act of self-love but also love for humanity… why aren’t you meditating?

‘If you truly get in touch with a piece of carrot, you get in touch with the soil, the rain, the sunshine. You get in touch with Mother Earth and eating in such a way, you feel in touch with true life, your roots, and that is meditation. If we chew every morsel of our food in that way we become grateful and when you are grateful, you are happy.’ Thich Nhat Hanh

Even Oprah & Deepak Chopra have created collab magic with their 21 day Meditation Experience {because we know it takes 21 days to break/create a habit}.

‘Dedicating some time to meditation is a meaningful expression of caring for yourself that can help ou move through the mire of feeling unworthy of recovery. As your mind grows quieter and more spacious, you can begin to see self- defeating thought patterns for what they are, and open up to other, more positive options.’ Sharon Salzberg

Why not give it a try?

Love & light, Charlie x.
