You have to do the {hard} work.

Ive posted this before and as Im evaluating all of my systems, procedures, new products, new menus, new staff and ….#everything in my life (I am living in hope that once this chaotic mess of systems and procedures is sorted Ill be back to living in organised bliss #growing pains) I felt the need to not only re-read it, but print it for my vision board, right next to my business beliefs and what I need to do to achieve the 200% growth Im aiming for.

The below is reposted from Dan Waldschmidt;

You have to make the call you’re afraid to make.

You have to get up earlier than you want to get up.

You have to give more than you get in return right away.

You have to care more about others than they care about you.

You have to fight when you are already injured, bloody, and sore.

You have to feel unsure and insecure when playing if safe seems smarter.

You have to lead when no one else is following you yet.

You have to invest in yourself even though no one else is.

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.

– Dale Carnegie

You have to look like a fool while you’re looking for answers you don’t have.

You have to grind out the details when it’s easier to shrug them off.

You have to deliver results when making excuses is an option.

You have to search for your own explanations even when you’re told to accept the “facts”.

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.

– Albert Einstein

You have to make mistakes and look like an idiot.

You have try and fail and try again.

‘I am not the richest, smartest or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going.’ Sylvester Stallone

You have to run faster even though you’re out of breath.

You have to be kind to people who have been cruel to you.

You have to meet deadlines that are unreasonable and deliver results that are unparalleled.

You have to be accountable for your actions even when things go wrong.

You have to keep moving towards where you want to be no matter what’s in front of you.

You have to do the hard things.

The things that no one else is doing. The things that scare you. The things that make you wonder how much longer you can hold on.

Those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between living a life of mediocrity or outrageous success.

The hard things are the easiest things to avoid.  To excuse away. To pretend like they don’t apply to you.

The simple truth about how ordinary people accomplish outrageous feats of success is that they do the hard things that smarter, wealthier, more qualified people don’t have the courage — or desperation — to do.

Do the hard things. You might be surprised at how amazing you really are.

‘Don’t listen to what anybody says except the people who encourage you. If it’s what you want to do and it’s within yourself, then keep going and try to do it for the rest of your life.’ Jake Gyllenhaal

YES. A reminder for us all. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it (and the hard times make the good times oh sooo much better!)

Love, Charlie x.

The highlighted are my notes to self 😉 DONT THINK ABOUT IT TO MUCH (re that to do list).

The year that was.

Are you spending time reflecting? Planning?

New Years; the perfect time of year to revisit the last year and create all those New Years resolutions (which, in all honesty how often do you stick to?)

‘Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.’ Buddha

As my 31st birthday was only a week ago, I’m also reflecting on the year that was my flirty 30… minus the flirty.

All to often we get consumed with where we are going, where we want to be, who we want to be, that we forget who and where we are, in this exact moment.

Do I have the family I had dreamed I would? The beautiful apartment we owned {me & my hot hubby of course}? Do I drive my dream car (white range ;)… the answer is no. Does this make me less of a success than if I did? No.

Instead this year:

I found myself.

‘You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.’ Buddha

This has to be my #1 most important and priceless lesson I have learnt. I have learnt that in all times of stress, uncertainty, anxiety, (read tears & pain, can’t get out of bed/what the f%&k am I doing thinking), you have to trust yourself. Your passion. Your belief. You have to do the work every day so that when life hits, and it hits hard, you are able to get knocked down, then promptly stand up and say is that all youve got? Time after time I have learnt that this year.

From the time I couldnt afford to pay my power bills and had to apply to the Salvation army for support (not that I could get it because I work for myself etc).

From the time I had to ask a friend to pay my rent for me.

From the release of my book with mistakes.

From the time I altered my recipe/Clean Treats for better processing time, which then created faulty stock… {AHHH}

From the time my ex who has a fiance came into my life and told me I was the one, the love of his life, wanted to build a world, get married, have a family etc, then promptly re disappeared.

From and in between all the unsuccessful dating escapades I’ve been on (not that many, hence the minus of ‘flirty’ before  thirty and the #onedatewonder) to the new and then broken friendships, new and lost clients…

In between all of this I was given the greatest gift of all. I found myself. I have realised that I am alone, but not lonely. As much as I dream of a real love, I have all my love to give to my business, my passion, my purpose, to you right now. This is my focus. Where I am is exactly where I am meant to be and I am thankful for everything that has happened to teach me, to learn from and to appreciate all that I do have.

Now, I’m not saying that now I have an ego that strides next to me everywhere I go, instead, I’m still here feeling anxiety (even currently as Im processing big change in my life, I don’t like to be unorganised), I have a quiet confidence that has been instilled within my heart, my mind, my soul…I’ve got this. Whatever it is. Whatever happens, Ive got it.

I’ve learnt to look for opportunities in every mistake.

You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.
– Ralph Marston

Geez. This is one of the best…opportunity thinking, because let me tell you, if you are building a business or a life and take every mistake you make as a personal hit and beat yourself up about it, how can you expect yourself to ever get up? You have to be your own cheerleader.

I have loved and lost. I have learnt that this is ok. As I get older I am constantly surprised with the flow of people in your life, sometimes people can be so close, yet sometimes so far away.

Ive learnt that adoration is very different from love. You can meet people and create a #crush, adore them and who they seem to be, yet only sometimes will this turn into either a real relationship, or that soul shaking friendship (you know when you just know theyve got your back)?

We write #wifey, #lover, ‘I love you’ everywhere, yet how often do we mean these words? And on the flip side how often do you say these words to the people you actually do love?

Through this flow I’ve created a world of love and inspiration, mentors (I cannot believe some of the people/creators of their own empires that I now have to call, smile & laugh or stress with/learn from) and amazing people around me, yet I’ve also found my wall has been built higher, more impenetrable than ever before (read #trustissues).

Do not mistake my kindness for
•|| W E A K N E S S ||•

My kindness is my greatest
•|| S T R E N G T H ||•

Cultivate an attitude of gratitude. There is always something to be grateful for. For the good, the not so good, the love, the pain…life, this is it and its beautiful.

This year I’ve gained 5kg, lost 2, gained 3, lost 1 etc…created a binge eating problem, ran a full marathon, 42km with no training 4.5 hrs, started boxing, gave up boxing, played with yoga, meditation, got bored of yoga and meditation (as much as I know I need them), looked in the mirror and hated myself… and at the end of it all Ive done more this whole year than most of my life combined and I am happy. Not lean, but happy.

Re the marathon; just wow. I highly promote this or any what may seem impossible goal to anyone. I decided 1 week prior and then just did (I am a little lucky, I have been a runner my whole life, and it is my chosen form of stress relief). The after effect: it felt like every cell in my body was alive, alert…having a party. Just wow.

This year, as I’m sitting here amongst my apartment that is half packed up, reports and receipts lying all around me, I’m not making any big promises, and new years resolutions, Im not starting a diet. In fact that’s a lie. I’m starting my new plan; the NO diet, diet. From a book? A program I paid for? NO. Just NO diet. Eat what I want when I want, train, run, walk,, yoga anything when I want. Changing my thinking and listening to my body.

‘Life isnt about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.’ George Bernard Shaw

I am however re acquainting myself with my yoga matt. And I’m spending new years eve/night (ill probably be asleep by 12pm #nanaandlovesit {you can all start the first day of the year removing toxins and feeling off}  working on my dream/goal/and rule boards.

These have been well overdue. And I’m talking about the small things like; Monday kitchen, Tues/weds/thurs delivery. Fri Admin; expense, marketing, social media…ETC. That really exciting stuff 😉 And I actually am EXCITED (please dont judge me). Im actually creating a job description and role for myself, because #bosslife, doing what I want when I want, has had me working harder, not smarter.

Rules for myself; i.e no less than 8 hrs sleep per night. Technical detox (yup, no more naughty scrolling/stalking at 12pm at night) at 10pm. Morning walking or meditation. These aren’t so much even rules, but these are the things I KNOW make me feel good. And sometimes when your trying to create and build a business organically, you and your health can become lost within the pressures, the late night orders, questions etc.

My health is my #1 investment. So I’m writing my own rules. Keeping a focus on what makes me feel good, really good.

Oh, and something I had forgotten that makes me feel so good; a weekly book store visit and new book. Not a romance novel which only fills my mind with more hopeless romantic notions (read, I will never settle for anything less than the whole zoo when Im with you), but business books, people who have created their dream life, people who have said yes when the world has told them no. This is one of my pure soul #happy actions.

So as I reflect, feeling a little on edge (I just need to move and get settled, I really, really DISLIKE my home environment being unsettled), as I’m about to hire my first #baller/personal assistant, all I want to say to you, my readers, my clients, my friends, my lovers, my #wifeys, my #soulies, my #healthies, every single person who has touched my life in any way, good or bad, for a moment or a lifetime…thank you.

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
– Marcel Proust

I wouldn’t be here, trying to create a life I love to live, a healthy change in the world and hopefully inspiring just one person daily…without you.

‘Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.’ Buddha

Instead of making New YEAR goals, let’s make New DAY goals…every day. Be a better person, today. Make healthier choices, today. Say I love you, today. Take time to just be, today.

So much heartfelt, soul deep love to you, Charlie x.

Are you prepared to sacrifice for success?

How badly do you want it?
A question you have to ask yourself when you are chasing your dream.

A question I ask myself daily. Especially when it can all seem to much, I find its important to step back and think about why I am doing what I am doing (to create a healthy change in the world), sit with myself to connect with my heart, my passion and trust that what is right for me will be.

What most people don’t understand is the sacrifices that are made by successful people to get to where they are today.

The hours of work.
The commitment.
The lack of social life.
The energy required to cultivate a constant ‘can do’ attitude.

Success does not just happen overnight. It requires work. Commitment. Focus. Out of the square thinking & ingenuity. An indomitable will to keep going. Passion. Purpose. Love.

Today, not the first of many, I’ll be working while the world around me is celebrating Melbourne Cup day.
Would I like to be in the sun sipping champagne, sure.

But I would like to be Director of a multimillion dollar business…more.

You have to decide what you want and then make decisions that will get you there.
If you read my words, you’ll know I’m a big believer in motivational speakers, positive affirmations, filling your mind up with them so much that there’s no space left for negative thoughts, self doubt, or fear. (I was actually told the other day that im like a walking quote book/motivational cd…quite funny).

‘You want something, go get it.’

How prepared are you to make sacrifices so that you can invest your time in making your dream reality?

How prepared are you to commit to your dream? To always find a yes when life/people may say no?

How prepared are you to keep going when the going gets tough?

‘Dont be afraid to fail, you can’t always win, but don’t be afraid of making decisions

You have to believe that something different can happen, he who says he can, and he who says he can’t are both usually right.

Most of you say you want to be successful but you don’t want it bad, you just kinda want it, you don’t want it badder than you want to party, you dont want it as much as you wanna be cool, most of you don’t want success as much as you want to sleep.’

When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.

You have to be prepared to make sacrifices. Believe it or not, but I used to take great pride in my sense of fashion; classic but designer. Sass and Bide was a personal favourite. Now, I cannot even remember the last time I brought designer items, choosing Nike (and only if I’m lucky) and investing in my business first. Doing what i can with what i have, organic growth, new packaging, new clients, new products…these make me just as happy as those Sass and Bide purchases (actually probably more). *When my dream is real I will be spending some hrs and hard earned $$$ in there Im sure, but for now Im prepared to go without.

‘To sacrifice what you are for what you will become.

Talent you have naturally, skill is only developed with hrs and hrs of beating on your craft.

If you are not making someone elses life better tha youre wasting your time.’

I no longer spend my weekends in a night club, bumping and grinding with people who are drinking away their problems (because isn’t that what nights of drinking that turn into 5am mornings are? Drinking to escape reality?) *Dont get me wrong, I love a nice wine, or my latest favourite Coconut tequila, but these happen once every blue moon. My days are to valuable to waste hung over, my body to precious to torture with the dehydration, and no doubt fast food that’s normally consumed.

Every decision you make is a step towards your future. Is it a decision for a better you? Or is it a step backwards?

‘Who do you want to be? What it’s going to be, who youre going to be, how youre going to do it. Just decide.’

‘If you know what you’re worth, go out and get what your worth, but you got to be willing to take the hits and not point the finger and say you aint where you want to be because of him or her or anybody, cowards do that and that aint you. Youre better than that.

Because everyday is a new day, every moment is a new moment…Ima show you how great I am.’

So with that, and yes my writing is a way that I can share with you that yes I do struggle; some time in the sun, looking pretty, sipping champagne would definitely feel good. But I am committed to making my dream, my reality & honestly the thrill of my new project about to become real…absolutely nothing can beat.

Love & light, Charlie x.

10 Habits of people who follow their dreams

I read this and had to share… how many habits of the below do you have?

{Re blog from Mind Body Green}

People who are true to their purpose and are really successful didn’t always get there because they had the financial means to do so or were just lucky enough to have been brought up in a confidence boosting environment. There are actually a few common habits that have helped them get to where they are. The best part is that these are habits that anyone can attain!

1. They see challenges as opportunities

Most people interpret fears as obstacles and tend to run away from them. People who live their purpose successfully have developed the capacity to see fear as a sign of what they really need to go for and put all their courage and energy into it.

2. They see life as a game.

Having this vision of life opens up space for playfulness and creativity instead of limitation. This also cultivates qualities of resilience, problem solving and confidence that helps them take risks to get to the next big place.

3. Living the life they want is the only option.

They’re so committed to making their dreams a reality that they banish any possibility of a backup plan whatsoever from their mind. They don’t think things like, “If it doesn’t work, I’ll just go get a job.”

4. They always speak their truth.

They’re able to speak it because they make a conscious effort to connect to their truest desires, their inner voice, and their spirituality without fear of judgment. This connection is typically fostered through meditation, journaling, being mentored and being surrounded by like minded-people.

5. They aren’t just dreamers: they act on their desires.

Instead of getting stuck in their dreams, they snap right into action, no matter what it takes. Whether it’s quitting a job, getting out of a relationship that holds them back, investing in themselves or moving to a new location, they have the courage to do it. They do this by listening to, and then acting on, their intuition.

6. They expect and know that they deserve the best.

They expect that what they want is going to happen as if it were an inner-knowing. They expect and feel they deserve to earn well, do what they love, serve others using their gifts. The secret is that they still expect the best even when they don’t have all the answers as to how it’s going to happen.

7. They have no fear or guilt when asking for what they want.

Because they’re so connected to their passions, they aren’t afraid to ask for what they want. In fact, they understand that their success depends on others, so asking for what they want is part of the deal. They set their boundaries and express their needs without fear, guilt or shame. Best of all, this is a trait that earns them respect from others.

8. They create their own rules.

They create their own rules instead of fitting into society’s norms. They make decisions from a place of what they want to have instead of what they think they can have. This gives them the freedom to design their destiny.

9. They’ve learned to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

They don’t get stuck in having all the answers, making things perfect or trying to gain comfort by controlling everything. Instead, they’re aware that they’re not going to see the next step until they make the decision to move forward despite the discomfort.

10. They have teachers, mentors and role models.

Having teachers increases their awareness. They clearly understand that each time they’re getting ready to pursue their dreams all their limitations are going to come up to the surface so that they can let go of them. Having role models and mentors helps them quickly identify where they’re stuck so that they can immediately change their results.

Now, go out there and start living life to the fullest!

Love & light, Charlie x.

Cultivate healthy habits for both your mind and your body everyday. Start each morning by thinking ‘what a beautiful day’, realise that life will happen, the goods and the bads, but train your mind to see the positive in every occurrence, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS keep an attitude of gratitude.

Monday Motivation…Little Flowers

I saw this absolutely gorgeous business online and couldn’t wait to share it with you.

Introducing Sarah Regan from Little Flowers, a unique business that delivers beautiful blooms for $25 {Sydney}.

‘A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love.’ Max Muller

Charlie: You have created a unique business concept that celebrates the gift of giving and is growing rapidly, what do you attribute this success to?

Well, people love sending flowers but they can be very expensive to send. So I think we found a really great gap in the market. And the idea was born from some really strong insights – not only around expense, but also the realisation that what’s most important when you’re sending or receiving flowers is actually the gesture itself. The words or sentiment behind the flowers. Ultimately though, it’s people who create success, and we’re lucky enough to have an absolutely wonderful team of smart, fun, creative and hard working people at Little Flowers. I think it’s fair to say that we all really get a kick out of knowing that each bunch is going to put a smile on someone’s face too and that’s a great motivator.

‘In the end, its not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.’ Shin Xiong

Charlie: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the Floral industry?

I’ve always loved flowers and had played around with them as a hobby, visiting the market and doing quite a few courses. But it wasn’t until I started developing the idea for Little Flowers with my business partners (Idea Gallery and Hans Christian Berents) that I knew I had to give it a shot. I did a lot of research before taking the plunge and I knew that Little Flowers had huge potential – not only as a business, but also in terms of personal fulfilment as I saw it could give me the emotional rewards that I’d been searching for in my previous career.

Charlie: When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself?

You know, I actively tried not to think of it like that at the beginning, because coming from a corporate background the idea was quite intimidating. But I have to say it’s exceptionally liberating to have control of your own destiny. I have so many ideas for Little Flowers and it’s really exciting to know that I can make them a reality.

Charlie: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

Well it’s lovely to think that someone might view me in that way. So many people who’ve started their own business, or followed their passions, have inspired me along the way and it’s a real honour if I’m having that impact on someone else. I hope that as I grow, and as Little Flowers grows, we can have a really positive impact on individuals who want to follow their dreams, and the community in a broader sense too.

‘The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy  – it’s all that matters.’ Audrey Hepburn

Charlie: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Oh yes, lots! I think every day I learn something new. Having your own business certainly teaches you to be resilient and I think my brain has stretched and grown more in the last year than ever before. One of the great things through is we have so many creative minds on our team that when you have a challenge it can actually transform into something really wonderful because it sparks new ideas.

Charlie: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

Well, that’s a great question for me as it’s often something I find quite a challenge. By nature I’m a hard worker and running my own business, particularly doing something I really love, there’s always that tendency to get totally sucked in to it. Now that we’re becoming more established though, my week has a bit more structure, and I’m able to carve out more time for exercise and that kind of thing. I try to run a couple of times a week and fit in yoga and meditation where I can. I also really enjoy cooking up some healthy meals. Probably the best thing though is taking my dog Tess for a play in the park – animals are very grounding and they give you such a great perspective on life.

Charlie: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

That’s a tricky one as there are so many things! But I think people are really the key. Surrounding yourself with people who inspire you and fill you with confidence, and those who compliment your skills and fill your knowledge gaps. And also how you treat people. I think it’s critical to have integrity – treating people how you’d like to be treated yourself – whether it’s your team, your customers, anyone who touches the business.

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” Albert Einstein

Charlie: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

It’s one of life’s greatest ironies that you learn most from your mistakes. Put the bad experiences behind you quickly and try to look at them as a way of improving. Most importantly, dream big – it’s amazing what you’re capable of when you put your mind to it. Dare to believe you can do it.

Charlie: When can we look forward to next from you?

We might still be little, but we’ve got big ambitions to expand within Australia and internationally.

“Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Charlie: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

#1 Get enough sleep each night – 4am starts have made me realise the importance of a good night’s sleep!

#2 Meditation is a great way of clearing the mind and giving you perspective.

#3 Having fun and being with people you love hanging out with is probably the greatest medicine of all.

Charlie: Share something no one knows…

After a long day I love nothing more than coming home and singing stupid songs to my dog.

I sincerely thank Sarah for her time.

Why not send someone you love, care for and appreciate a gesture of kindness today?

Envy or celebrate {others success}?

Do you find yourself envious of others success, or do you choose to celebrate their joys?

I have found that sometimes it can be those that are closest to you that dont seem to share with you the same level of happiness in your successes as those who barely know you. Why is it that we can’t enjoy others success freely and instead try to belittle them or the way they have achieved their accomplishments?

‘It’s not people who resent successful people; it’s resentful people who resent successful people.’ Bo Bennett

As Im striving to continue working for myself doing what I love (this is my definition of success) I have fond that I am receiving recognition, support and congratulations from places and people I least expect it from, but perhaps not so much from the people I do (expectations we know only lead you to disappointment).

success3Are we that selfish that we cannot express happiness for people who work hard to follow their dreams?

‘It’s our nature: Human beings like success but they hate successful people.’ Carrot Top

When others believe that you have achieved the success they are yet to find, it can be difficult to swallow. After all we are all out there trying to the very best we can with what we have (or are you?).

‘When you’re around enormously successful people you realise their success isn’t an accident – it’s about work.’ Ryan Tedder

What determines who is successful and who is not?

“The world aint all sunshine and rainbows. Its a very  mean and nasty place, and I dont care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it, you me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life, but it aint about how hard you hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.

Thats how winning is done.’ Rocky

Its about how badly you want it.  You have to be prepared to do the work. When you achieve your version of success, you will understand me when I say, it is hard work. You have to keep going, for every 10 no’s there is 1 yes, for every minute there is hours worth of work to do. There are no days off. Work comes before partying. Your dream becomes your reality when you live and breathe it every moment of every day.

‘When you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, then youll be successful’.  Eric Thomas

I used to gaze wistfully at successful people, people who I thought had it all. It LOOKS so easy. Now, I can tell you I look to those same successful people with full admiration and respect for I am fast learning the highs, the lows the sideway turns that it takes to get there.

There are some people in the world who just don’t like other people success. Resentment. Jealousy. Envy. This says more about them then it does you.

There are some people who are inspired by your success and admire you for dedication to your dream. Offer them a helping hand and keep these people close to you. Positivity breeds positivity.

‘Successful people have a social responsibility to make the world a better place and not just take from it.’ Carrie Underwood

So be one of the ones that celebrates in others successes, you will feel better for it to. Celebrate, be motivated and share love.

The more you help others get what they want, the more ways what you want will come to you. This is true.

Success is hard work. Its saying I can in a world that will tell you you cant. Its believing in yourself when no one else does. Its getting up every time you fall. Its saying, I will not fail.

Love & light, Charlie x.

First, you just have to decide. Decide what you want, who you want to be, then do everything you can to be that person.

‘All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.’ Brian Tracy

Thirty, flirty & fabulous…

So they say…In only a few days time I will turn the big three zero.

I cannot even begin to understand the emotions Im feeling, overwhelming excitement, nervous anxiety, anticipation and I must admit, slightly concerned.

‘Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. it means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” Unknown

I know for a fact that I am not the only person to give themsevles the ’30 yr’ deadline; it goes somehting like this…Marriage, house & kids.

As I reevaluate my life (and not to much will change in the next few days) I will be 100% (just for emphasis) single, renting and with no dependants (however I do refer to my book as my baby/coming SO soon).

Now, please do not mistake me, I am more than 100% in love with my life (even the challenges that are arising), I just wanted to express my confusion about the mixed feelings I am experiencing and explore why we put so much pressure on ourselves to obtain certain things and even worse on a deadline.

‘Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude.” Denis Waitley

When we are little we envision our lives to be something out of a fairy tale (yes, I blame disney for my high standards and hopeless romantic status). We expect to get the career we want, to move swiftly through promotions, to meet the man (or woman) we dream of, complete with the fairytale wedding and then move into our dream house and have gorgeous children.

We give ourselves a timeling of 30.

By 30 all of these wonderful things should have happened to us. But what if they havent yet? What our truly gorgeous younger selves forget to realise is that in between all of those goals/fantasies…life happens.

Also, as we become more driven to succeed, 30 is the year of fabulous, you know just enough to know what you want, have developed a sense of self, and most likely are living or beginning your dream career. Times have changed.

‘Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.’ Les Brown

Life, something we can take for granted; we rush through it waiting to achieve the next goal or attain the next social status or level of achievement. Life is beautiful, in this very moment, all the good and the bad. Does it really matter if you dont drive the latest range Rover? Wear the latest Lululemon? Or have a thigh gap? No, these things are only material and do not last the test that is time. People will remember  how you make them feel, how they enjoy or dislike your company.

‘A beautiful woman with a good heart can never be ugly’.

So as Im finalising my book release (I can honestly say this has caused some nerves, anxiety and sleepless nights), Im trying to keep focused on everything wonderful that I have created in my life. I am reflecting about what I have been, what I have done but only from a place of re-evaluation. At 30, its time for me to put some goals together for the next few years, for a goal is a dream with a deadline.

I actually believe with every essence of my being that 30 will be one of my best years yet. 28 was good, 29 has been pretty amazing. I will believe and I will create an even better year (with some more wisdom). Today, I am planting the seeds for my tomorrows, for the beautiful life that is my dream to develop & grow, to flourish. Every day I am prepared to do the work (even when I dont feel like it); the positive affirmations; healthy eating; yoga practice; to stop the negative self talk. These healthy habits are like water for the positive seeds in my life.

‘He who is of calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition youth and age are equally a burden.’ Plato

So whilst Im far from married etc, I am commited to my business goal, to inspire and motivate others, to become the very best version of myself. I cannot begin to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.

As always with my writing, I am not here to say my thoughts are the right or wrong way, they are simply expressions of my thoughts, of the world I live in. My life is not perfect, but I am dedicated to achieving my dreams and I know that even in this very moment, with every opportunity that is presented and with my current problems that require solving…I am exactly where I should be. Every challenge is an opportunity for me to prove just how much I want it (my dream, to share love & inspire).

‘Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.’Kobe Bryant

I couldnt ask to be in a better place in my life right now. I am so thankful for everything that has occurred (many good and many not so good things) to lead me here; this place that I can honestly say is happiness.

Relax on the pressure and just enjoy life.

Love & light, Charlie x.

Monday Motivation…Noa Ries (Vie Active)

I recently found one of the hottest, ‘must have’ labels in fitness wear…Vie Active (yes, sometimes I can be behind times).

Today I would like to introduce you to Noa Ries, the co-founder of one of Australia’s premium activewear brands.

“You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true.” Richard Bach

NBB: You are the co-founder of one of the hottest/sexiest fitness wear labels of the moment, what do you attribute this success to?

Firstly, thanks so much for the lovely compliment! It is so exciting to know that an idea that started as a vision and a concept for doing things differently is being responded to so well around the world. I think part of this is due to the fact that I used to be a personal trainer and I created the range with people who sweat for a living in mind.  Women who don’t want to compromise style for functionality.

NBB: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

I’ve always been incredibly passionate about health and fitness.  I decided to become a personal trainer when my husband and I moved to Singapore in 2008 and its health & fitness have been embedded in my life ever since.

1391746_10152122922993619_673985858_nNBB: When did you decide to begin Vie active?

One afternoon I had an epiphany to create the range after realizing I was spending my LIFE in activewear and would often get to the end of the day feeling cold/clammy and really quite daggy! I set out on a mission to create truly technical activewear that would enable me to do an intense workout but would also be chic and stylish enough to wear all day long. Vie Active started with the finest quality Merino wool – an incredibly unique fabric and the ultimate performance fibre as it is naturally temperature regulating, anti-microbial, shape retaining, moisture wicking, odor resistant (I could really go on and on…..!). It’s not only super soft and breathable on your skin but it also allows you to be dry, stink-free, and just as comfortable after the most demanding run, yoga, or boot-camp session. From the beginning, we decided to push the envelope by integrating high definition prints into the Merino fabric to fuse fitness with fashion and function and as a result, our clothes truly do look and feel just as good on the studio as they do on the street.

“Faith is not desire. Faith is will. Desires are things that need to be satisfied, whereas will is a force. Will changes the space around us.” Paulo Coelho

NBB: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

Honoured and flattered beyond words.

NBB: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Many! Manufacturing is by far our biggest challenge and I think our lack of experience in the fashion industry has been both a positive and a negative for us. On the one hand, its enabled us to think outside the square and push the envelope in terms of product development to envisage something that didn’t exist before (truly technical and fashionable performance wear that can be worn all day long). On the other hand, it’s been a very intense process to create this product and work with our suppliers and manufacturers to get it right and to the highest quality.

NBB: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I try to do something active every day. More for my mental sanity than anything else. I do a combination of barre workouts, HIIT classes and walking my two daughters in the pram. I try to nourish my body with food that is as clean as possible simply to provide me with the energy I need to get through the day as with a 10 week old, a 2.5 year old and a new business my life is very hectic and busy!

NBB: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Hard work, putting the customer first (always), doing something you love.

‘To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.’ Steve Prefontaine

IMG_1181NBB: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Listen to your inner voice. Talk to other people you trust and develop your idea to the point that it’s a workable business concept. Don’t get paralysed by analysing, just go and do it!

NBB: When can we look forward to next from you?

Lots of new colours, and prints and some new styles plus lots more exciting health & fitness lifestyle content on our blog.

NBB: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

  1. Be Active every day. Even if this means just going for a walk.
  2. Drink at least 2 litres of water each day
  3. Eat healthy fats and minimise sugar in your diet

NBB: Share something no one knows…

I decided to train for and run a marathon after being told by a massage therapist that I didn’t have the “right body” for marathons. It hurt like hell (I couldn’t walk properly for 5 days) but guess what, I ran across the finish line!

“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” Oprah Winfrey

I sincerely thank Noa for her time.

Monday Motivation…Nikki Sharp

This gorgeous lady is one of my favourite girl crushes…I just have to say. She leads an amazing healthy LIFESTYLE, eats clean, practises yoga and inspires many…how could you not crush on her?

‘I love life because what more is there?’ Anthony Hopkins

Introducing Nikki Sharp, 26, international model & founder of Stay Sharp Be Strong. Based in London (Staysharpbestrong has 181K followers on IG).

NBB: You are a well-known Health/Wellness advocate. What do you attribute this success to?

A huge part of this is that I have shared my struggles with my instagram followers so they feel like they’ve been on a journey with me. I have also made it a point to respond to every person that emails me as I like having that personal touch. I respond to comments on Instagram and try to encourage others who tag me in photos. I believe in showing my followers that I genuinely care for them and I think it shows by how quick my company grew. I also have my 5 day detox which has seen incredible results with over 20,000 people worldwide purchasing it. I love sharing everyone’s stories of their detox pictures and experience and my followers happily send me in their before and after’s to get featured on my account.

‘Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.’ Helen Keller

NBB: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

It was October ’12 as I was really enjoying training and I was always making these delicious snacks that I thought would be cool to market. I ended up holding off on those and working on my detox instead.

NBB: When did you decide to start your own business?

The same time, October ’12. It all happened very suddenly and out of the blue I suddenly had this burning desire to be helping others which is why I started my website and company. It all evolved very naturally, which has been amazing to see.
‘Life is like the ocean. It can be calm and still or rough and rigid but in the end, it is always beautiful.’ Unknown
NBB: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?
I absolutely love it. I look at all these celebrities who say they don’t want to be in the limelight and will be caught smoking drugs and drinking lots and I just don’t agree with it. I feel that if you have the amazing opportunity to be well known that you should use it to your advantage and help others. Truly there is nothing more rewarding than getting emails from mothers saying them and their daughters follow me and that the mother loves what I do and the message that I promote and that they are totally okay with their daughters following me. It’s a very cool feeling to know that I can have the power to change people’s lives!
NBB: Has there been any challenges along your journey?
Ha, oh my gosh SO MANY! People forget that I’m human just like everyone else and I go through my own struggles on my body, weight, how I look and feel. I’ve experimented with so many diets and recently did raw vegan for a while and it just didn’t work so well for me. I get really stressed having my own company and it affects my skin (which is a problem I’ve dealt with my whole life). It’s definitely not all roses for me and I do share my struggles on my IG account 1. to show people I’m the same and 2. to also get support from others.
‘Your life doesn’t get better by chance, It gets better by CHANGE.’ Unknown
NBB: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?
Tough one, I try to exercise a few times a week but when I’m stressed it becomes less and I will stop eating so well. I really believe in moderation though and I used to work 10-12 hour days 6 days a week during the whole summer and it took it’s toll. So now I’m changing it up and instead working 5-6 days a week but less hours to help me keep my focus. I think it’s essential that I maintain my own health because when I feel good it shows through on my company.

NBB: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

1. Believing in your product
2. Knowing that what you do/sell is different than what’s out there. I am definitely not the only one doing this, I’m not the best but I give a different perspective than what’s been done
3. Treating your customers (and more importantly your STAFF!) with respect. There are many times that I have had customers come back to me and not be happy and I will do what I can to help. I think your staff are most important though and that if they are not happy it will get passed on to your clients/ customers.

NBB: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

If it is truly achievable then I absolutely recommend creating a mind map and to get a notebook and write all ideas down. I personally carry mine at all times because you never know when you’ll hear a quote, have an idea, or just need to keep track of something. I do believe there is a difference between a dream that you want and one that can happen. I will never be Beyonce or a famous singer but that has always been a dream. I think realizing your dreams that you can actually achieve is key because then you won’t feel like you didn’t succeed when you don’t become Beyonce 🙂

NBB: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

1. Focus on weight training, not just cardio. Cardio helps burn fat but weights are what will actually get you a toned, tight and fit body and keep you slim as you burn more calories when you have more muscle.
2. Have 3 colors at every meal. This will satisfy you a lot more and keep you from binging later on.
3. Learn to recreate your favorite naughty recipes with clean version. My favorite is my vegan cheesecake which is to die for and is actually nourishing for you body!

Yes, I am putting the Vegan cheesecake on this weekends dinner menu 🙂 Life IN balance x.

Your life, your responsibility.

Many people know what they want yet have no idea to get there. Many aren’t prepared to take action towards their goals. Whilst others aren’t sure what their goals are.

‘The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That’s the day we truly grow up.’ John c. Maxwell

What is it that you really want from life? If you could change anything in the life that you are living now, what would it be?

If you want something, do everything you possibly can to make it happen. Take action. Daily. Consciously. Make a change today.

You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.’ Abraham Lincoln

Find your goal and make a plan. Other people can’t achieve your goal for you it’s yours. Make decisions about achieving your goal then give it your all, your mind, body & soul. Dedicate your heart to your passion and achieving it. You can create your dream reality, if you focus. Energy goes where intention flows.

Stop playing the victim and giving other people the power to change your life. And stop waiting for other people to make your life better, or make your dreams come true. You are the only one who can change your life.

You can choose to be happy, just as you can choose to be unhappy.

‘One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.’ Tony Robbins

Whatever happens, if it works, if it doesn’t, if you make mistakes… IT DOESNT MATTER. Mistakes are proof that you are trying. If you truly want to make a change realise that you can, believe in the beauty of your capabilities and make it happen. It wont be easy but it will be worth it.  Be prepared to learn, to grow and develop in your life. Be flexible, allow your direction to change as your life does.

‘It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. Aristotle Onassis

As I’m learning about business and working for yourself, I have realised I’ve been asking a lot of my friendships and from the people in my life, in terms of support and connections. I realised this when I was  experiencing a feeling of disappointment and being ‘let down’. I had to stop to think about where these emotions were coming from, what was occurring at the time and how much was I depending on other people to do the work for me? I soon realised, I had become dependant. I was utilising my support system as foundations of my business (rather then my internal strength) when they should simply be supporting structures (of a building, not 100% on this terminology, but Im sure you understand what I mean). My lesson, don’t rely on other people to do the work for you, they have their own lives to keep their focus on and no one can do what you do the way you do it.

1468706_10152113662923619_1138440331_nOne’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes… and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.’ Eleanor Roosevelt

Goals are dreams with a deadline. Consciously plant the positive seeds in your mind to support the beautiful garden of your mind. Plant seeds of strength. Belief. Faith. Realise what it is you dream of becoming, the life you dream of living then strive to succeed with perseverance and determination.

Dont just live your life, design a life you love to live.

Love & light, Charlie x.
