Are you prepared to sacrifice for success?

How badly do you want it?
A question you have to ask yourself when you are chasing your dream.

A question I ask myself daily. Especially when it can all seem to much, I find its important to step back and think about why I am doing what I am doing (to create a healthy change in the world), sit with myself to connect with my heart, my passion and trust that what is right for me will be.

What most people don’t understand is the sacrifices that are made by successful people to get to where they are today.

The hours of work.
The commitment.
The lack of social life.
The energy required to cultivate a constant ‘can do’ attitude.

Success does not just happen overnight. It requires work. Commitment. Focus. Out of the square thinking & ingenuity. An indomitable will to keep going. Passion. Purpose. Love.

Today, not the first of many, I’ll be working while the world around me is celebrating Melbourne Cup day.
Would I like to be in the sun sipping champagne, sure.

But I would like to be Director of a multimillion dollar business…more.

You have to decide what you want and then make decisions that will get you there.
If you read my words, you’ll know I’m a big believer in motivational speakers, positive affirmations, filling your mind up with them so much that there’s no space left for negative thoughts, self doubt, or fear. (I was actually told the other day that im like a walking quote book/motivational cd…quite funny).

‘You want something, go get it.’

How prepared are you to make sacrifices so that you can invest your time in making your dream reality?

How prepared are you to commit to your dream? To always find a yes when life/people may say no?

How prepared are you to keep going when the going gets tough?

‘Dont be afraid to fail, you can’t always win, but don’t be afraid of making decisions

You have to believe that something different can happen, he who says he can, and he who says he can’t are both usually right.

Most of you say you want to be successful but you don’t want it bad, you just kinda want it, you don’t want it badder than you want to party, you dont want it as much as you wanna be cool, most of you don’t want success as much as you want to sleep.’

When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.

You have to be prepared to make sacrifices. Believe it or not, but I used to take great pride in my sense of fashion; classic but designer. Sass and Bide was a personal favourite. Now, I cannot even remember the last time I brought designer items, choosing Nike (and only if I’m lucky) and investing in my business first. Doing what i can with what i have, organic growth, new packaging, new clients, new products…these make me just as happy as those Sass and Bide purchases (actually probably more). *When my dream is real I will be spending some hrs and hard earned $$$ in there Im sure, but for now Im prepared to go without.

‘To sacrifice what you are for what you will become.

Talent you have naturally, skill is only developed with hrs and hrs of beating on your craft.

If you are not making someone elses life better tha youre wasting your time.’

I no longer spend my weekends in a night club, bumping and grinding with people who are drinking away their problems (because isn’t that what nights of drinking that turn into 5am mornings are? Drinking to escape reality?) *Dont get me wrong, I love a nice wine, or my latest favourite Coconut tequila, but these happen once every blue moon. My days are to valuable to waste hung over, my body to precious to torture with the dehydration, and no doubt fast food that’s normally consumed.

Every decision you make is a step towards your future. Is it a decision for a better you? Or is it a step backwards?

‘Who do you want to be? What it’s going to be, who youre going to be, how youre going to do it. Just decide.’

‘If you know what you’re worth, go out and get what your worth, but you got to be willing to take the hits and not point the finger and say you aint where you want to be because of him or her or anybody, cowards do that and that aint you. Youre better than that.

Because everyday is a new day, every moment is a new moment…Ima show you how great I am.’

So with that, and yes my writing is a way that I can share with you that yes I do struggle; some time in the sun, looking pretty, sipping champagne would definitely feel good. But I am committed to making my dream, my reality & honestly the thrill of my new project about to become real…absolutely nothing can beat.

Love & light, Charlie x.

Monday Motivation…Femme Fatale {Joelle Christie}

Summer. is. coming.

Ugh oh. Time to put down the delicious nutrient dense superfood smoothies and switch to clean green juices.

One of the latest (and growing rapidly) trends…fitness modeling. Some of you may know I used to compete, but not anymore, Im trying to find my own balance (and look after my hormones for, hopefully, one day a family).

So inspired by this, I wanted to feature someone who motivates me, someone who is always in good shape, is always smiling and is genuinely ‘lovely’ (yes, my favourite word of the moment).

Introducing the beautiful Joelle Christie, Inba Bikini Pro Model.

You have created a rapidly growing business; and your own profile as Joelle Christine Fitness Model, in the fitness & health industry, what do you attribute this success to?
I guess it all comes down to the fact that I’m a very normal and average person and I share all the struggles and challenges that I face and people are able to relate to that. So many people only share their highlights on social media and that can unintentionally cause others to look at their own life in a negative way. By showing the good and the bad that I go through I hope to inspire others and make them realise that health, fitness and happiness is achievable and attainable by everyone.

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?
Well I went through a period where I was extremely unhappy because I wasn’t eating right and wasn’t exercising and all of that caused me to have no confidence or self-esteem. And those things can impact you not only physically but also mentally. One day I stumbled upon some photos of a fitness model and she looked so happy, healthy and confident that I decided then to change my life. I joined a gym, started a program and after a while decided that I wanted to compete in a Bikini Fitness Competition. I started working towards that and was successful at the competition and the rest is history!

‘In seeking happiness for others, you find it for yourself.’ Anonymous

When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself?
I’m still at Uni (studying law and business) so at the moment my fitness ‘ventures’ are a side project but someday I wish to combine my degree and love for fitness and create something special. I’m not sure what it is yet but watch this space!

‘Energy and persistence conquer all things.’ Benjamin Franklin

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I’m honoured that some look to me for inspiration and I hope that I am able to continue to inspire and motivate them as they in return motivate and inspire me. I’m just a normal and average girl who had a big dream and is making it come true so I want to be able to help others to find their passion and be happy.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?
Of course! One of the biggest challenges I faced was to find a method of dieting which worked for me (I now do flexible dieting and am very happy). I also faced some negativity regarding my decision to compete from some people but sometimes events like these show people’s true colours and can help to make your life a more positive place.
There’s been heaps of business related challenges too, and I guess it all comes down to showing companies that by working together you are able to add value to their business as they add value to yours.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?
Just keep the big picture in mind. Allowing stress to impact on your health isn’t worth it in the long run so just take a breath, surround yourself with supportive people and remember what you’re working towards.

‘Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.’ Norman R. Augustine

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?
I think the key to success in business is passion. If you find something that you love and are passionate about then this love and passion will lead to success. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, then you will be successful” (Albert Schweitzer).

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?
Surround yourself with supportive people, surround yourself with those than are also dreamers and know that there will be challenges but if you persevere then you will make your dream come true.

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” Arnold Schwarzenegger

Top 3 healthy tips/advice?
1. Health and fitness is not a number on the scale – focus on how you feel rather than what you weigh.
2. Live a balanced life; treat yourself well and treat yourself. Eat healthy food and enjoy the occasional indulgence.
3. Hit your macronutrients and your micronutrients. Eat your vegetables!

Share something no one knows…
I would love to travel around to schools and talk to students about self-confidence, beauty and happiness to try and prevent them from going through some of the struggles that I went through.

I sincerely thank Joelle for her time.

Raspberry Ketones…the latest craze.

Before I start my review, I want to state that I promote healthy balanced eating and excercise before the use of thermogenics or stimulants.

‘Life is not merely being alive, but being well.’ Marcus Valerius Martialis

However. Sometimes we need an extra ‘something’/boost to stay commited to our fitness and health goals (I know I do, especially in winter when my bed, my teddy bear, a herbal tea and good book call out my name).

I believe its important that you research whatever it is you are putting into your body and understand the effects it will have.

One of the latest ‘buzz’ words has beenRaspberry Ketones. I remember when I heard about it last year and its benefits, I couldn’t wait to get my little hands on some (although iherb was sold out) for some significant thigh shrinking action.

‘The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not’ Mark Twain

So Raspberry Ketones, what are they?

Also known as Cetona de Frambuesa, Cétone de Framboise, Raspberry Ketones, Red Raspberry Ketone, RK, it is a chemical from Red Raspberries, but can also be found in Cranberries and Blackberries. Used predominantly for fat loss and lean muscle mass it can also be used on the scalp for hair growth. Interestingly, a raspberry ketone is the particular raspberrie smell and was originally used for cosmetic purposes.

“The greatest wealth is Health.”  Unknown

A study has shown that a ketone prevented weight gain in the liver, and gains of visceral fat (the bad fat) around organs (Journal of Life Sciences).

Another study showed the ketone increased the breakdown of fat molecules/lipids in the fat cells. It was also stated to increase metabolism by promoting the secretion of the protein Adiponectin. Obese people, and diabetes sufferers generally show low levels of this.

Love the skin your in…apllying Rasperry ketones directly to your skin is shown to have positive effects to combat ageing (we all want to look younger for longer). One study showed that after a 5 month period of use, there was an improvement in skin elasticity and hair growth ( journal Growth Hormone & IGF Research).

‘Raspberry ketone is the primary aroma compound of red raspberries. This compound regulates adiponectin, a protein used by the body to regulate metabolism. Raspberry ketone causes the fat within your cells to get broken up more effectively, helping your body burn fat faster. The recommended dose is 100mg per day. To get the same benefit from the whole fruit, you’d have to consume 90 pounds of raspberries. ‘ Excerpt Dr Oz.

Please speak to your nutritionist or GP if you are currently taking any medication, or suffer from anxiety/stress related disorders. It’s important to understand that everything we put into our body, becomes us…so learn about what you are using and how it will interact with everything else you are doing (medication, supplements and lifestyle).

‘The doctor of the future will give no medicines, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the causes and prevention of disease.’ Thomas Edison

Note: Overall, the U.S. Department of Defense Human Performance Resource Center deems the weight loss evidence on raspberry ketone as “insufficient.”

Ive recently tried Ketrim which is a more natural thermogenic. A natural energy source, it also has HLA, caffeine and Green Coffee Bean. Sweetened with Stevia.

I personally found this was a good ‘pre-workout’ as a source of clean energy without a ‘come down’ effect. It was brilliant pre-running and before morning cardio.

Like anything, I recommend to get advice. Find out what works for you and do not use thermogenics as a permanent solution. Create lifestyle changes. But, if you need a kick-start #bootupthebum, this may be the product for you without getting to caught up in the world of supplements.

(I am in need of that Boot, capital B…too many Clean treats taste testing happening over here)

Dont forget, the new MUSCLE ball range (Peanut Butter, Nutella and Lemon Creme) has been released for review. Samples are being sent with every personal order MUSCLE balls; Gluten, dairy, refined sugar and guilt free, higher protein level utilising a Vegan pea protein. No nasty preservatives.

Mind + Body + Soul = Happiness

‘The root of all health is in the brain. The trunk of it is in emotion. The branches and leaves are the body. The flower of health blooms when all parts work together. Kurdish Saying

{Selflove Sunday} Believe in yourself.

Do you know what separates the extraordinary from the ordinary? Belief. In themselves.

‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.’ Eleanor Roosevelt

Trust and knowledge that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, belief that they have it within in them, what it takes to make a difference, to live their dreams.

The most valuable lesson you can ever learn is the cultivation of self love, for that includes belief in yourself, appreciation for all that you are yet a desire to become more.

Do you have a dream? A passion? A purpose?

How can you expect to attain your goals if you dont believe in yourself? How can you reach your definition of success if in your heart you dont believe you will ever succeed?

You may have heard about my latest, unexpected #ball business (Clean Treats). The demand, popularity and feedback has truly blown me away, I couldnt have wished for anything more from something I just fell into (yes the ball business 🙂 But I cant keep floating along the wave of social media, the hype of a new product…today is about creating a business plan, writing down goals (remember a dream is only a dream until its written down, then it becomes an achievable goal). After only 3 weeks, its time I create a plan.

It is essential to write your dreams down. Create goals, have a clear focus of what it is you want and what you are working for every day, whilst enjoying the precious moments within the journey. This is where most people fail. We keep our dreams in our minds, in the ‘one day’, ‘if I could, I would’ thoughts. Whats holding you back? We all have greatness within us. Trust me.

What is stopping you? Your own self belief system. From the day we are born, until this very moment we are influenced by our environment. We have an integral self belief system of what level, where, and what we will do. Are you limiting your own potential?

This includes the people we surround ourselves with. It was stated by Jim Rohn (an entrepreneur, author & mentor to Anthony Robbins) that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Take a moment now, think about those you surround yourself with daily, their words, their actions, are they doers? Positive? Negative? Become mindful about those that influence you. You are most likely unaware of the effect these people have on your life. Be with people who inspire you heart, the ones who are chasing their own dreams, the ones who believe in you. The ones you have ‘those’ lightbulb conversations with.

As I have found myself, started working for myself, and as I like to say, Im a dreamer, and a doer, my circle has changed. I want to be inspired. I want to feel my heart fill with pride and joy for those I love when they follow their dreams. I dont want to talk about the 9-5 complaints of the corporate world, the everyday problems. I choose to speak about our joys, our successes. Because we all have problems. But what you focus on is what will grow. Choose your thoughts, your conversations, and the investment of your time wisely.

As I’m writing down my BIG goals, I feel it in my heart, running through my veins, that this is right for me.  Mind; business. Body; sharing the healthy word. Soul; creating something for myself, following my passion. and I am grateful. Even when I have to do the things that arent necessarily my favourite, Im grateful for the opportunity to do more, to become more.

‘To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.’ Anatole France

Sure, they are only healthy #balls, theres plenty out there, but I am in competition with no one. Im doing it as my small part in creating change within the world. Sunday funny, I sing to my balls, (LOL, but true) the soulful, strength building, wise words of India Arie, I infuse every ball with love, and my energy (in macrobiotic & ayerveda traditions they believe in the energy that is infused whilst creating a meal, and suggest never to prepare a meal whilst you are feeling angry or upset. Just think about when your not feeling so great, you always want your mums home cooked meal, because its infused with LOVE). Every Clean Treat is someone making a healthy decision over a not so healthy one. Its one insulin spike against the obesity epidemic. As I write this, my heart is full. I am passionate. I believe.

I am my own best friend. I can say ‘I CAN do it’ against a world that will tell me I cant, or people that may laugh at my BIG goals, BIG dreams. I trust my decisions, my actions and my heart. I will make mistakes, Im perfectly Imperfect. Im just doing what I can with what I have, not tryint to be anyone else but myself on this beautiful journey that is life.

‘All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.’ Walt Disney

You have to believe. You have to wake up every day and be passionate. You have to know that whatever you decide to do, you can do it!

Theres a well known story about the 4 minute mile, the power of belief. Roger Bannister an oxford student, a runner who achieved 4th place in the 1952 Olympics, began to question his skill. Instead of giving up he set himself a new goal: to be the first man to run a mile in under 4 minutes. At this time in history, no one had ever accomplished this, Drs said it was impossible for the body to run that fast. The biomechanics, our nature wouldnt achieve this. Roger Bannister believed he could. He trained and trained. His first attempt was 4:03:06, close but not quite, but close enough that he realised his goal was within reach. He trained harder. 1 year later he ran the mile in 3:59.4. He achieved his goal. Interesting enough, just 6 weeks later another runner broke the 4 minute barrier, and in years that followed many more did the same, repeatedly.

‘We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.’ Jesse Owens

What happened? Belief. someone tells you you cant do something, believe you can and go out there and do it. Whether it be a fitness goal, business goal, desire, dream, passion chasing goal. You can do it. But you have to write it on your heart EVERY day that you can, every moment of every day. You have to live your dream, breathe it, sleep it. This is passion.

This is the life that I am living.

‘Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.’ Harriet Tubman

Self love sunday is the best day to invest your time into your goals, your focus. Go out there and make it happen. I believe you can, I know you can, the question is, do you?

Love & light, Charlie x.

In case you are wondering, the goal for Clean Treats is $1 million for its first year. BIG, scary (especially to share that), but possible because I believe.

{Studies show making goals public holds you accountable to achieve them}

Self made, not man made.

Now I’m sure this is no latest trend but perhaps as my eyes are opening to society and I am becoming aware of the world around me, maybe I’m noticing more of this occurring…women with men to ‘make’ them?

‘When you stop trying to find the right man and start becoming the right woman, the right man will find his way to you.’ Cher

Now I’m not even talking about the classic gold digger, I’m referring to those girls who are with someone for reasons they find justifiable. His friends, his influence, his business. What if you could be a self made women? A women of independence doing what you can with what you have; passion and drive?

‘Life is a challenge, meet it’ Mother Theresa

Some people would rather be in any type of relationship rather than alone and particularly if his ‘particulars’ assist our goals. Does this come from a sense of insecurity a lack of sense of self? My thoughts (and remember these are my simple musings about the world around me) is that yes, it does. If you need to be with some one for a sense of validation, you haven’t yet learnt the true power of self love.

‘Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.’ Norman Vincent Peale

Self love is when you know exactly who you are, you feel the doubt, the insecurity, yet you have the courage to face the world with a ‘this is me, like it or not. I am who I am attitude’ (and believe me there will always be someone who doesn’t like you). Facing the world front on exactly as you are requires strength and a deep integral self support and belief system. Truth is, we all make mistakes. It doesn’t matter. As long as you have your own back. Stop leaning on someone for the pure benefit of having someone there or someone who can support (in all ways) you and your goals (for all the wrong reasons).

‘My willingness to be intimate with my own deep feelings creates the space for intimacy with another.’ Shakti Gawain

You are strong enough to do it on your own. Stop waiting to be rescued. That’s a big statement that I know a lot of girls and women are guilty of feeling…when I meet ‘the one’, ‘when I get married’, ‘I don’t have to work hard or make something of myself because when I’m married I’ll be a stay at home mum’. Chances are you’ll be just as unsatisfied when/if that happens as you are now. Be self made. Create a sense of self dependance, and attitude of I can, I will, watch me. Then be with someone who you can compliment and who compliments you, not out of need.

‘When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, ‘Oh yes – I already have everything that I really need.’ Dalai Lama

There is no greater power than self trust and belief. Setting yourself a goal no matter how big or small and achieving it. This rewards your mind, and your body. You feel good. You release all sorts of wonderful chemicals and hormones that create a sense of self worth. Remember the last goal you had that you achieved? Take a moment to reignite that feeling… If you haven’t got a current goal other than finding a man to save you, I highly suggest you go get one. Even if it’s get to the gym today, eat healthy, or run a marathon.

A sense of accomplishment creates pride (not ego), strength and courage.

Create a goal, and then go get it done.

Love & light, Charlie x.

{I’m here, waiting for the one who will do anything to be my everything, but in the mean time I have love to share, work to be done and (HUGE) goals to accomplish}

Thirty, flirty & fabulous…

So they say…In only a few days time I will turn the big three zero.

I cannot even begin to understand the emotions Im feeling, overwhelming excitement, nervous anxiety, anticipation and I must admit, slightly concerned.

‘Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. it means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” Unknown

I know for a fact that I am not the only person to give themsevles the ’30 yr’ deadline; it goes somehting like this…Marriage, house & kids.

As I reevaluate my life (and not to much will change in the next few days) I will be 100% (just for emphasis) single, renting and with no dependants (however I do refer to my book as my baby/coming SO soon).

Now, please do not mistake me, I am more than 100% in love with my life (even the challenges that are arising), I just wanted to express my confusion about the mixed feelings I am experiencing and explore why we put so much pressure on ourselves to obtain certain things and even worse on a deadline.

‘Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude.” Denis Waitley

When we are little we envision our lives to be something out of a fairy tale (yes, I blame disney for my high standards and hopeless romantic status). We expect to get the career we want, to move swiftly through promotions, to meet the man (or woman) we dream of, complete with the fairytale wedding and then move into our dream house and have gorgeous children.

We give ourselves a timeling of 30.

By 30 all of these wonderful things should have happened to us. But what if they havent yet? What our truly gorgeous younger selves forget to realise is that in between all of those goals/fantasies…life happens.

Also, as we become more driven to succeed, 30 is the year of fabulous, you know just enough to know what you want, have developed a sense of self, and most likely are living or beginning your dream career. Times have changed.

‘Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.’ Les Brown

Life, something we can take for granted; we rush through it waiting to achieve the next goal or attain the next social status or level of achievement. Life is beautiful, in this very moment, all the good and the bad. Does it really matter if you dont drive the latest range Rover? Wear the latest Lululemon? Or have a thigh gap? No, these things are only material and do not last the test that is time. People will remember  how you make them feel, how they enjoy or dislike your company.

‘A beautiful woman with a good heart can never be ugly’.

So as Im finalising my book release (I can honestly say this has caused some nerves, anxiety and sleepless nights), Im trying to keep focused on everything wonderful that I have created in my life. I am reflecting about what I have been, what I have done but only from a place of re-evaluation. At 30, its time for me to put some goals together for the next few years, for a goal is a dream with a deadline.

I actually believe with every essence of my being that 30 will be one of my best years yet. 28 was good, 29 has been pretty amazing. I will believe and I will create an even better year (with some more wisdom). Today, I am planting the seeds for my tomorrows, for the beautiful life that is my dream to develop & grow, to flourish. Every day I am prepared to do the work (even when I dont feel like it); the positive affirmations; healthy eating; yoga practice; to stop the negative self talk. These healthy habits are like water for the positive seeds in my life.

‘He who is of calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition youth and age are equally a burden.’ Plato

So whilst Im far from married etc, I am commited to my business goal, to inspire and motivate others, to become the very best version of myself. I cannot begin to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.

As always with my writing, I am not here to say my thoughts are the right or wrong way, they are simply expressions of my thoughts, of the world I live in. My life is not perfect, but I am dedicated to achieving my dreams and I know that even in this very moment, with every opportunity that is presented and with my current problems that require solving…I am exactly where I should be. Every challenge is an opportunity for me to prove just how much I want it (my dream, to share love & inspire).

‘Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.’Kobe Bryant

I couldnt ask to be in a better place in my life right now. I am so thankful for everything that has occurred (many good and many not so good things) to lead me here; this place that I can honestly say is happiness.

Relax on the pressure and just enjoy life.

Love & light, Charlie x.

Monday Motivation…Nikki Sharp

This gorgeous lady is one of my favourite girl crushes…I just have to say. She leads an amazing healthy LIFESTYLE, eats clean, practises yoga and inspires many…how could you not crush on her?

‘I love life because what more is there?’ Anthony Hopkins

Introducing Nikki Sharp, 26, international model & founder of Stay Sharp Be Strong. Based in London (Staysharpbestrong has 181K followers on IG).

NBB: You are a well-known Health/Wellness advocate. What do you attribute this success to?

A huge part of this is that I have shared my struggles with my instagram followers so they feel like they’ve been on a journey with me. I have also made it a point to respond to every person that emails me as I like having that personal touch. I respond to comments on Instagram and try to encourage others who tag me in photos. I believe in showing my followers that I genuinely care for them and I think it shows by how quick my company grew. I also have my 5 day detox which has seen incredible results with over 20,000 people worldwide purchasing it. I love sharing everyone’s stories of their detox pictures and experience and my followers happily send me in their before and after’s to get featured on my account.

‘Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.’ Helen Keller

NBB: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

It was October ’12 as I was really enjoying training and I was always making these delicious snacks that I thought would be cool to market. I ended up holding off on those and working on my detox instead.

NBB: When did you decide to start your own business?

The same time, October ’12. It all happened very suddenly and out of the blue I suddenly had this burning desire to be helping others which is why I started my website and company. It all evolved very naturally, which has been amazing to see.
‘Life is like the ocean. It can be calm and still or rough and rigid but in the end, it is always beautiful.’ Unknown
NBB: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?
I absolutely love it. I look at all these celebrities who say they don’t want to be in the limelight and will be caught smoking drugs and drinking lots and I just don’t agree with it. I feel that if you have the amazing opportunity to be well known that you should use it to your advantage and help others. Truly there is nothing more rewarding than getting emails from mothers saying them and their daughters follow me and that the mother loves what I do and the message that I promote and that they are totally okay with their daughters following me. It’s a very cool feeling to know that I can have the power to change people’s lives!
NBB: Has there been any challenges along your journey?
Ha, oh my gosh SO MANY! People forget that I’m human just like everyone else and I go through my own struggles on my body, weight, how I look and feel. I’ve experimented with so many diets and recently did raw vegan for a while and it just didn’t work so well for me. I get really stressed having my own company and it affects my skin (which is a problem I’ve dealt with my whole life). It’s definitely not all roses for me and I do share my struggles on my IG account 1. to show people I’m the same and 2. to also get support from others.
‘Your life doesn’t get better by chance, It gets better by CHANGE.’ Unknown
NBB: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?
Tough one, I try to exercise a few times a week but when I’m stressed it becomes less and I will stop eating so well. I really believe in moderation though and I used to work 10-12 hour days 6 days a week during the whole summer and it took it’s toll. So now I’m changing it up and instead working 5-6 days a week but less hours to help me keep my focus. I think it’s essential that I maintain my own health because when I feel good it shows through on my company.

NBB: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

1. Believing in your product
2. Knowing that what you do/sell is different than what’s out there. I am definitely not the only one doing this, I’m not the best but I give a different perspective than what’s been done
3. Treating your customers (and more importantly your STAFF!) with respect. There are many times that I have had customers come back to me and not be happy and I will do what I can to help. I think your staff are most important though and that if they are not happy it will get passed on to your clients/ customers.

NBB: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

If it is truly achievable then I absolutely recommend creating a mind map and to get a notebook and write all ideas down. I personally carry mine at all times because you never know when you’ll hear a quote, have an idea, or just need to keep track of something. I do believe there is a difference between a dream that you want and one that can happen. I will never be Beyonce or a famous singer but that has always been a dream. I think realizing your dreams that you can actually achieve is key because then you won’t feel like you didn’t succeed when you don’t become Beyonce 🙂

NBB: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

1. Focus on weight training, not just cardio. Cardio helps burn fat but weights are what will actually get you a toned, tight and fit body and keep you slim as you burn more calories when you have more muscle.
2. Have 3 colors at every meal. This will satisfy you a lot more and keep you from binging later on.
3. Learn to recreate your favorite naughty recipes with clean version. My favorite is my vegan cheesecake which is to die for and is actually nourishing for you body!

Yes, I am putting the Vegan cheesecake on this weekends dinner menu 🙂 Life IN balance x.

Your life, your responsibility.

Many people know what they want yet have no idea to get there. Many aren’t prepared to take action towards their goals. Whilst others aren’t sure what their goals are.

‘The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That’s the day we truly grow up.’ John c. Maxwell

What is it that you really want from life? If you could change anything in the life that you are living now, what would it be?

If you want something, do everything you possibly can to make it happen. Take action. Daily. Consciously. Make a change today.

You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.’ Abraham Lincoln

Find your goal and make a plan. Other people can’t achieve your goal for you it’s yours. Make decisions about achieving your goal then give it your all, your mind, body & soul. Dedicate your heart to your passion and achieving it. You can create your dream reality, if you focus. Energy goes where intention flows.

Stop playing the victim and giving other people the power to change your life. And stop waiting for other people to make your life better, or make your dreams come true. You are the only one who can change your life.

You can choose to be happy, just as you can choose to be unhappy.

‘One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.’ Tony Robbins

Whatever happens, if it works, if it doesn’t, if you make mistakes… IT DOESNT MATTER. Mistakes are proof that you are trying. If you truly want to make a change realise that you can, believe in the beauty of your capabilities and make it happen. It wont be easy but it will be worth it.  Be prepared to learn, to grow and develop in your life. Be flexible, allow your direction to change as your life does.

‘It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light. Aristotle Onassis

As I’m learning about business and working for yourself, I have realised I’ve been asking a lot of my friendships and from the people in my life, in terms of support and connections. I realised this when I was  experiencing a feeling of disappointment and being ‘let down’. I had to stop to think about where these emotions were coming from, what was occurring at the time and how much was I depending on other people to do the work for me? I soon realised, I had become dependant. I was utilising my support system as foundations of my business (rather then my internal strength) when they should simply be supporting structures (of a building, not 100% on this terminology, but Im sure you understand what I mean). My lesson, don’t rely on other people to do the work for you, they have their own lives to keep their focus on and no one can do what you do the way you do it.

1468706_10152113662923619_1138440331_nOne’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes… and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.’ Eleanor Roosevelt

Goals are dreams with a deadline. Consciously plant the positive seeds in your mind to support the beautiful garden of your mind. Plant seeds of strength. Belief. Faith. Realise what it is you dream of becoming, the life you dream of living then strive to succeed with perseverance and determination.

Dont just live your life, design a life you love to live.

Monday Motivation…Jade Spooner

Today I would like to share with you someone who has personally inspired me. I used to work with Jade as her Business Development Manager and she would always have a smile, she was 100% committed to her goal and happy to share her experiences. Jade has recently competed in her very first Fitness Model competition, and I must say she motivated me throughout mine.

‘Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.’ Norman Vincent Peale

Jade Spooner (in the red), 21 years young is a full time gym manager  (Anytime Fitness Rockdale) and law student.

NBB: You have recently created immense change in your life, please describe how this feels?

The recent change was immense, I’d always trained but my decision to compete took that to a whole new level it required so much more disciple, focus and deterring from old habits and temptation.

For me the feeling is one that I thought would only be temperamental as I’d just immerse myself back into my ‘old life’ post comp. It’s in fact been quite the opposite, my life has absolutely taken a different turn and it feels great. I’m so excited about the opportunities this new chapter has presented me with and can’t wait to see where it’ll take me!

NBB: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the fitness industry?

I didn’t so much decide that I wanted to be in the fitness industry I sort of just ‘landed’ in it after high school. I enrolled straight into law at Wollongong uni and was offered a casual role at Anytime Fitness after doing some temporary promo work for them. I absolutely fell in love with the company and everything it stood for and worked my way into a management position where I’ve been glued ever since. It would have been hard to be present in that environment every day and not let the influence rub off on me. I’d always exercised and watched what I ate but after furthering my education at the gym it was like the more I learnt the more I adopted myself and the industry just became part of my lifestyle.

NBB:How does it feel to successfully achieve your goals?

I’m one of those people who always strives for more. I set goal and challenges obviously with the hope of accomplishing them but also letting them be the platform for bigger and better achievements to come. My goal to compete was accomplished the moment I stepped on stage which was a huge win for me but to ‘successfully achieve’ that goal would be to bring home a trophy which I hope to do next year. While I achieved my goal to compete in October I did let it weigh on other aspects of my life such as uni, work and my relationships so my goal for next season is to be as much of a successful competitor as well as achieve success in other areas of my life.

‘I don’t believe you have to be better than everybody else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be.’ Ken Venturi

NBB: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Challenge is an understatement, when I first selected a coach and received my plan I thought it was manageable and allowed for balance. Boy was I wrong. Different coaches and competitors approach a prep differently, each to their own and there’s no right or wrong way while different things work for different people every experience is a lesson learnt. My original plan didn’t work for me, I had no weight loss after 12 weeks of strictly following what my coach had prepared from A-Z. My coach then and still to this day is sure that something was ‘wrong with me’ and my body. After every examination and blood test under the sun my body was fine, it was my plan that wasn’t suited to me. I know that now, I didn’t know it back then so I spent my last 10 weeks killing myself at training and -I didn’t know then but do know now, I was eating less than 1000 calories a day. That was my physical and mental challenge, my body was like it was on autopilot, my memory was failing on me, I was exhausted and thank god the day came when it did because I was ready to shut down.

NBB: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I lacked balance massively during my last prep but as I mentioned before an experience whether a success or failure is a lesson learnt and that’s something that ill be able to manage better next time round. In saying that though I still passed uni and had a successful quarter at work although it wasn’t all up to my usual standard, how I did it? ..I couldn’t tell you because I think I just managed my time well and soldiered on through the hard days. “Tough times don’t last, tough people do”. I’m really fortunate now to have an amazing coach who practices and preaches science, the body is a crazy machine and he’s taught me about its capabilities while maintaining balance so I look forward to my next prep.

‘Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. nothing can be done without hope and confidence.’ Helen Keller

NBB: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

As an inspirational figure/mentor I don’t know if I’m there exactly yet but it is something that I want to develop into as I progress further with my accomplishments. I’ve always been seen as the ‘do it all girl’ I won’t do anything part time or at the expense of something else, if I want to do it all I will and I guess that’s something I’m proud of. It makes me feel really honoured and flattered that thus inspires others because I don’t think people realise their capabilities sometimes so if I can help even just one person to strive for the unthinkable then that’ll make me happy. My 17000 Instagram followers who supported me through out my journey and turn to my account for inspiration makes me ecstatic and its something that I’m really excited for the opportunities to come in the future.

NBB: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

I’m fortunate enough to work for a successful businessman who I’m so proud of and blows me away continually. At 21 I’m not yet a business owner but do run one of my own on behalf of my boss. The relationship we have I believe has helped to build the successful foundations of our gym and element of his business. He is extremely driven, motivated and hands on with his business and I really respect him and his admirable work ethic. As a result I’m able to honestly and openly communicate to him and we can collaborate ideas to allow for the success of the gym I run. We are both really hard workers and have goals often bigger than the possibilities at hand but if your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough! I look to my boss and what he’s enshrined in me and think that ‘that’s how it should be done’ a successful business must be built on honestly, trust, goals and accomplishments, drive, communication and mutual respect. I’m extremely fortunate to have had such a good example set for me to one day replicate in my own business ventures.

‘The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.’ Confucious

NBB:  What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

My dream was so big that it assumed a lot of doubt from people around me, my family was skeptical, people at the gym wondered if I had enough time and at one point my own coach even suggested we reevaluate- I wouldn’t take it and if the same thing happens to you neither should you. If you want something with all your heart, chase it as hard and fast as you can and never settle till you’re satisfied. Nothing worth having comes easy and I had times where the sacrifices got me wondering whether or not the return would be worth it. My girlfriends know how to party and we lead extremely different lives, when I’m focused on something sitting out of nights out and all that jazz becomes a regular, I remember feeling so isolated in my friendship group and like I didn’t belong but if you’re out to attain a goal the road isn’t going to be easy, there’s just some speed humps you need to tackle on the way but don’t let them ruin your journey.

IMG_0856Top three fitness tips:

Fuel your body with the right foods.

Two is better than one- my training partner was my absolute rock through out my journey and I couldn’t have done it without her, sharing the experience with her on stage was something I won’t forget and highly recommend teaming up with someone who is chasing the same goal too.

listen to one school of thought that you believe works best for you and don’t take all the ‘broscience’ advice from every man and his dog at the gym, trust an knowledgable professional or your intuition

Monday Motivation…

I could not believe it when this amazing/inspirational/motivational author agreed to be interviewed for NBB’s Monday Motivation.

Her book; Getting real about having it all, was a life changing experience for me. When I was going through a stage of my life, lost, unsure of myself and what to do…I purchased her book, read it and it all made so much sense! I actually loved it so much after reading it, I went and purchased more copies as presents. Even now when I’m feeling like a positivity injection I will pick it up to re read.

Introducing: Megan Dalla-Camina, 43, Strategist, Author, Coach, Speaker

*Megan is also currently nominated for Telstra businesswoman 2013 (Congratulations & Good luck from NBB!)

When did you decide to become a writer?

I never really decided to become a writer, it has just always been part of my life. I started writing when I was about 8, and I used to write poetry. Then in my angst filled teenage years it was songs and dark dry soulful stuff. I then spent a long time focussed mainly on business writing, and then more around self development and wellbeing. But I always knew that I would write books, books to help people on their journey. I think it is my souls calling.

‘Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you imagined’. Thoreau.

Were there challenges along your journey?

We all have challenges and in my life journey I have had plenty as I outline in my book. But the road of writing the book and getting published was an easy path for me. I had set the intention years ago to live my life with grace and ease. It is my daily affirmation, after years of thinking everything had to be hard won to be worth anything. It doesn’t. Writing the book in 4 months, whilst working a big job and being a single mum certainly had it’s trying and tiring moments, but really it was pure joy, and a gift.

‘Be a master of mind, rather than mastered by mind’. Zen Proverb.

Being published by Hayhouse is a huge accomplishment, how does that feel?

It feels amazing, and it is a huge honour to be part of such an amazing publishing company. It is like being part of a family. And it is truly humbling to be an author published alongside my spiritual teachers like Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson and Deepak Chopra. And of course, the truly beautiful Louise Hay to whom we all owe so much. I could not have asked for more for my first publishing experience.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I am very clear on what I am here to do. I have a clear vision and I put really strong boundaries around what I will and won’t focus on, and where I want to spend my time and energy. This makes all the difference. I prioritise my health and wellbeing and that of my family above all else. And I love what I do. When you get all of that right, it works. It doesn’t mean it works every minute of every day, but overall, it works well.

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I would like to hope that my work, my writing, coaching, teaching, makes a small difference in people’s lives. When I get emails, or calls from people telling me how my work has impacted them, I feel blessed. Blessed that my life and learnings, and my ability to translate that into a story or teaching, has benefit for someone else. So I would say above all else, I feel grateful.

‘Rain your kindness equally on all’ Buddha.

In your book, getting real about having it all, you mention the importance of finding a mentor. Who was yours?

I have had many. Business mentors, wellness mentors, spiritual teachers and others. They have all profoundly impacted me. I encourage everyone to seek out mentors who can shine a light on their path through sharing their lessons and their journey. It is one of the most invaluable ways to grow into who you are and who you want to be.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Get really clear on it. Visualise it. Make a plan for it. Do the work. Stay true on your path. And make it happen. I used to write all the time – breathe. dream. believe. create. It is like my little mantra and that thread is through everything I do. We can create magic. Get still, get clear, believe you can do it, and truly anything is possible.

Íts the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting’. Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist.

When can we look forward to your next book?

I am about to start writing it, so next year I would think. I have just written a small ebook called 12 Rules for Balanced Women which will be up as a free download on my new website when it launches in July. It is a great resource for people. I cannot wait to start writing the next book in a few weeks – there are actually three in planning stages!

Share something no one knows…

I always have a US100 note in my purse, it’s my way of manifesting my next trip to New York.
