You have created the Body Harmony Society, what was the reason behind this?

I founded my business, Elevate Vitality, and I have launched the Body Harmony Society as the flagship online resource for helping women find freedom + harmony in their bodies, their lives and their business.

The Body Harmony Society is an online space for women who are tired of hating their bodies, who feel trapped in old patterns of negativity and worthlessness, who feel exhausted, drained and overwhelmed, who panic, stress and worry about everything, and who generally don’t feel safe or ‘at home’ in their skin.

On the surface? It’s about upgrading your health and your life.

But really? It’s about accepting yourself on every level. And feeling really proud of yourself for doing so.

I made it because it breaks my heart when I see women feeling so stuck, so less than, so lost.

I made it because I remember feeling so disconnected to myself, so overwhelmed, so sad and flat and tired.

I made it because I’m tired of seeing women (and dudes too) worry about their bodies.

I made it because I feel your pain when you stress and fret and anguish over how you look instead of celebrate who you are. 

And ultimately… I want to help

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health & wellness industry?

I was working as a hair and makeup artist in the fashion and beauty industry, and I found myself always speaking to the models about their nutrition and health. I was drawn to natural medicine, so I made the switch several years ago and I’m so glad I did!

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?  

I never set out to be an inspiration figure or mentor, I just want to help women find body harmony and help them feel balance, aligned and calm in their bodies and their lives.

I love what I do, so it feels easy and enjoyable and important to spread this message.

Has there been any challenges along your journey? 

Of course; it wouldn’t be a journey if there weren’t challenges.

But the challenges have made me stronger. They helped me clarify my vision and my strengths, and show me where I had to improve and focus.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health? 

I make sure to start my day with exercise and some ‘me’ time – whether that’s writing in a café for a few hours, going for a walk and breakfast with a friend, journaling or meditating.

I watch my energy levels closely and I make sure to pull back before I burn out. I give myself whole days off, and block out time to just write and do some content creation so I’m not cramming too much into my days.

My business is based around self-care and educating my clients on how to not burnout, so I make self-care a priority as it’s important I lead by example.

What do you believe are the keys to success in business

‘Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.’ Unknown

I think this depends on every business, but I think some keys are:

  1. Clarify what your dream is, as opposed to other people’s dreams
  2.  Stick it out through the harder times, knowing that this too shall pass. This is easier when you can see the bigger picture
  3. Give yourself plenty of time outside of your business – this is often when the big, beautiful ideas will come
  4. Invest in yourself and your business – i.e.  spend time on your business and not just in it. You sometimes need to spend money to make money
  5. Find a group of people who get you when it comes to business, and bounce ideas off them. It’s important to have support from fellow business owners or entrepreneurs
  6. Find a mentor or mentors, and work out which traits of theirs you resonate with and want to emulate in your own business

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Chase it.

Follow it.

Make it happen.

Make it beautiful.

I think my only tips for fashion fitness are to be comfortable, and don’t be scared to wear colour!

I grew up horse-riding and my riding friends and I thought we’d all ride in the Olympics, and then run a horse training farm together. We even had our individual roles all mapped out! Oh, childhood dreams…

As a kinesiologist and naturopath, Cassie Mendoza-Jones helps women upgrade their health and their life. In working with Cassie, women move into what she calls “body harmony” – a state of balance, ease and vitality.

Your Mother was right…You are unique!

The reason you are confused as what diet or workout to follow is because some people are shouting “do this” and then another mob are preaching the exact opposite.  leaving you in the middle not making any progress with your body — and it affecting your health.

It’s not that they are out “to get you”, its because some plans will work for some people, and other plans will work for other people.

But Here Is The Secret Sauce For Weight Loss

  1. Start with a plan that tailored to you and your situation.
  2. Have it work with you – as you and your metabolism changes, your diet and workouts need to.
  3. Have the guidance and support to keep you easily on track and not falling off the wagon like you have before.

Selecting a good weight loss diet to match your fitness goals can be tricky. Depending on what you are trying to achieve and what your body type is, some diets may be more effective than others. Before starting any sort of weight loss diet, always check with your doctor. They can not only clear you for it, but can help by giving suggestions and warnings that can guide you more successfully to your goal.

Starving yourself can backfire in the worst sort of way and make you body store everything coming in instead of burning it. You need to slowly scale back your intake and eat meaningful calories. Increasing your activity and burning more calories with a sensible diet is a good way to slowly loose weight and keep it off.When You’ve Lost Most OF The Weight, But Are Stuck.

…Stubborn Fat

One thing most people run into with a weight loss diet is an plateau or two. You’ve stepped up your routine, maybe even trimmed a little more from the calories but nothing seems to be budging.

To avoid the non-sense, I’m not going to blow smoke and tell you there a ‘magic potion’.  The only potion you need 95% of the time is to stay committed to yourself and keep working hard.  Fat will start coming off from certain areas over your body than others.

There are Alpha and Beta receptors in your fat cells than can “switch on” fat-burning or make it harder to burn off.  To get the famous Female guide on dealing withStubborn Fat Click HERE

If you are having an issue with stubborn fat, you may need to first adjust your workout, and then reconsider your diet. Adding in fat burning herbs and spices can help kick up if your metabolism has started to drag for some reason. Peppers, such as cayenne, are great for helping boost your fat burning. Black pepper in particular has a unique chemical in it that can help you loose weight as well. There are a lot more herbs and spices that have natural fat fighting compounds, many Indian spices such as turmeric and cumin, for example are helpful as well.

This is truthfully only going to be minuscule changes – for a Fitness Model or Bodybuilder, these small changes when at low body fat levels will make a difference, but don’t go down the “Fat Burning Pill” avenue — its not needed.

You have smashed through your initial weight loss goals, and your aim is now to get in great shape. To really drop into low body fat and reveal your body and shape.

Monday Motivation…Beautiful Minds

You know when you meet people and you just feel ‘WOW’. Marina Passalaris is one of those types of people that make you instantly fall in love with the way her smile lights her face, the depth in her words and the manner in which she acts.

I have been lucky enough to work with Marina & her beautiful program for teenage girls. Something that I am extremely passionate about as a once delinquent teenager.

Its designed to educate teenagers and their parents how to achieve happiness through vital life skills, self-esteem, confidence building and grooming.

Charlie: You are a successful business woman and the creator of Beautiful Minds, what do you attribute this success to?

Success is very simple..it boils down to having a clear vision, being lazer focused, working incredibly hard and knowing that giving up is neither a choice or an option.

Charlie: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the wellness industry?

I spent 15 years working as a grooming and deportment educator and make up artist in some of the top modelling agencies in Cape Town, London, Germany and Australia. This industry is known for negatively affecting girl’s confidence. I realised that there was a real need to educate girls more about their emotions and well-being. I wanted to achieve this by doing the Beautiful Minds courses in an environment that was conducive to all girls of any size and from any background, not just model ‘wanna be’s’. I wrote a program that I wish I had done as a young girl. It covers everything about being a teen girl in today’s society. Beautiful Minds has been a vision of mine for many years. I want to show young girls that they are beautiful inside and out.

Charlie: What inspired you to follow your passion?

If you know what your passion in life is, what your purpose is and what you want your legacy to be, you will pursue it with everything you have.

Charlie: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I don’t look at myself as an inspirational figure as that has a tendency to place me on a pedestal. It is more about the sharing of knowledge and passing this onto my Beautiful Minds students in the hope they will go on to create incredible lives for themselves.

Charlie: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

I would say rising above the ‘rip offs’. What I mean by this is that when you have a successful company, other individuals try and copy exactly what you are doing. I have had this experience and the blatant copying is rather outrageous. I have learnt to take it as a weird compliment that we must be doing something right. I also ensure that the business model changes and constantly improves so we are always top of our game.

Charlie: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

find it a bit of a juggle at times but as I am getting older, I am really starting to invest more in my health. I try and have one full day off a week, I eat really clean food and I try to exercise as often as possible. I have started having regular massages and putting time aside for me to just be still and to unwind.

Charlie: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

You have to give people an incredible experience. They are buying into a feeling, how you make them feel when they have finished doing business with you. That is imperative. Under promise and over deliver.

Charlie: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

We all have dreams but there is a huge difference between having a dream and taking small steps towards making this dream a reality. Be fearless, take action and chase the dream so it becomes a reality. Women are incredible, we are much stronger than we give ourselves credit for! Go after the life you desire. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it. I understand that fear stops people from doing many things but if your desire is stronger than your fear, you will find a way to do it.

Charlie: What can we look forward to next from you?

As the business has been going for 8 years, it has evolved over time. Beautiful Minds is about to totally change the way we educate young girls and we are in the process of setting up a very exciting event for girls aged 11 – 17. This event will be at The Paddington Town Hall on Saturday 6th September and is a full day jam packed with celebrities, guest speakers, dance troupes, music, dj’s and so much more! The aim of the day is to educate, inspire and entertain our youth. We have 550 tickets and these go on sale on April 10th. This event will then be rolled out Australia wide. There are so many incredible things happening in the Beautiful Minds office at the moment and the growth of the company is extremely exciting.

Charlie: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

1: Every night, I listen to positive affirmations or subliminal music that will positively feed my mind as I fall asleep. I believe in training the mind every single day. We are all taught to exercise our bodies for at least 30 minutes every day. We need to do the same with our minds. This will significantly slow down the mental chatter as you re-program your mind to think positively.

2: Drink lots of water and get adequate sleep each night

3: Eat healthy, clean food. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

Quickest Female Fat Loss Cheat Sheet

You’re busy, but you’re sick of mediocre results.

 Simplifying what you need to do, and only doing what gives you the biggest bang for your buck for your fat loss is the answer.

Stop wasting time, money and effort on useless tips that you heard down at the gym or from friends.

FOLLOW THESE STEPS EACH DAY.

  •  Protein at every meal

Each meal should include a protein source.  it can be an animal meat such as beef, chicken, turkey, fish, kangaroo or venison.  Also whey protein, brown rice or pea protein powder and eggs are great choices.

  •  Include your all you can eat carbs in every meal

This list are the carbs you can go to town and fill up on.  Add as much as you want and get variety to your meals.

Asparagus, bean sprouts, capsicum, bok choy, broccoli, brusel spouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, eggplant, garlic, green beans, kale, leek, lettuce, mushroom, onion, radish, snow peas, spinach, tomato, zucchini and watercress.

  •  Drink 3L of water

Clean, filtered water is a must for your body.  It flushes toxins, hydrates your mush needed cells for multiple purposes.

You know you should be drinking more water, but you probably struggle.  I recommend you have a BPA free water bottle on you the whole day so it becomes a habit for you to easily sip on.

  •  Carbs eaten Post training

Use your starchy carbs and carb powders if you use them for post training.

Yes, there are other times in the day that you can eat carbs, but the rule of thumb to at least start from, is to have them after your weight training.

  •  Sleep 7-9 QUALITY hours

Stirring, waking and flicking through your Facebook in the middle of night will damage and slow your fat loss.

Let your body rest, recover and catch the much needed Zzzz so you can dominate another day.

  • 1x Greens Drink

A green drink such as Phytologic, Vital Greens or Wellness Greens are chock full of nutrients you should be feeding your body.

Its easy, effective and get the job done.  Got to love that.

  • Zero processed foods

Getting lazy and slackening off to processed foods is just not going to give you OPTIMAL results.

Yes you could maybe get away with it, but I say “why risk it”.  Get the best results, burn as much fat as you can, and be confident with your body.

Im so lucky to be blessed with the support of the people around me.

Ever since that first communication I have always been so intrigued by Charlie. She has such a tenacity and spice for life. A drive you don’t often see, and kind hearted spirit thats hard to come by. How did your business come about?

Clean Treats aka #charliesballs kind of just happened. I previously made treats for the seminars I would hold as a way to show my clients that healthy food could be delish. Now, 6 months later I have 60 stockists nationwide, and BIG dreams. I also host seminars in high schools and work with Beautiful Minds teenage events.

The most rewarding part of your job? Speaking. Educating. Holding someones hand in their time of need. Life isnt always easy and to inspire someone to believe they can create change, to be more, fills my heart with love.

To know that when someone chooses a #charliesball instead of a chemical/preservative based product…I believe these small actions can make a healthy change.

What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could?

Im unsure. Everything is exactly as it should be, hopefully soon Ill be releasing the next stage for Clean Treats which Im SO excited about.

Feature; Charlie de Haas, the fifty two woman project.

I was recently honoured to be featured on Debbie Spellman’s website as 1 of her fifty women features.

Debbie is a personal source of inspiration to me, and I remember when I first met her, I could literally feel the love and compassion radiating out of her. Our green smoothie date turned into a deep heartfelt 2 hr chat about all things life and love, and creating a change in the world. Since then Ive worked beside her at speaking events and enjoyed watching her personal journey and business grow and develop.

Im never one to say Im perfect, in fact Im incredibly far from it. Im learning, everyday, to embrace my perfect imperfections, because they are mine. So I wanted to share this feature, and a little about me.

Charlie de Haas is one phenomenal woman! Not only is she one of the most beautiful souls I have ever met, I have watched her take an idea and concept and turn it into a powerhouse. You are such an inspiration for women in all you have achieved in your business. Was there a time when you didn’t feel so confident in what you were doing and why?

Yes, there are many occasions when I feel doubt or unsure. I think this is the pure beauty of life and business and things will always happen that will make you question yourself, your decisions, and your goals. What’s important is to create your own Self-love tools to provide the right answers and cultivate a sense of self trust.

If something rocks my world, perhaps something didn’t work out the way I wanted it to, I now know to revisit my core beliefs, why I’m doing what I am doing, and trust that what is right for me will be.

Was there a defining moment when you decided to launch your business or did this develop and evolve over time?

I have been involved in health and wellness for the past ten years, always working for other people and changing constantly, I was always looking for more.

I then had a dream of inspiring people, of creating change in the world and started to research ways I could do this on my own. I then took the risk (self-employment), put everything I had into it, and created a deep core belief that I could do anything, and did it.

Living our passion – even one which stems from our truest hearts desires – can be daunting. What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your mindset in order to live the life of your dreams?

Some people may not know, but I am very open about it, I suffer depression and BPD. I have a core belief that I will never be good enough (something I am in the process of working on). These have definitely held me back at times, yet I am also thankful for them. We each have our own story to tell, our own trials and tribulations, and it’s when you can accept them, realize them and create healthy habits to overcome them, that’s when you can truly fall in love with yourself and your life. Because there will always be the good and the bad, you will always have strengths and weaknesses. It’s about self-acceptance.

You are the co-founder of one of the hottest/sexiest fitness wear labels of the moment, what do you attribute this success to?

Firstly, thanks so much for the lovely compliment! It is so exciting to know that an idea that started as a vision and a concept for doing things differently is being responded to so well around the world. I think part of this is due to the fact that I used to be a personal trainer and I created the range with people who sweat for a living in mind.  Women who don’t want to compromise style for functionality.

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

I’ve always been incredibly passionate about health and fitness.  I decided to become a personal trainer when my husband and I moved to Singapore in 2008 and its health & fitness have been embedded in my life ever since.

One afternoon I had an epiphany to create the range after realizing I was spending my LIFE in activewear and would often get to the end of the day feeling cold/clammy and really quite daggy! I set out on a mission to create truly technical activewear that would enable me to do an intense workout but would also be chic and stylish enough to wear all day long. Vie Active started with the finest quality Merino wool – an incredibly unique fabric and the ultimate performance fibre as it is naturally temperature regulating, anti-microbial, shape retaining, moisture wicking, odor resistant (I could really go on and on…..!). It’s not only super soft and breathable on your skin but it also allows you to be dry, stink-free, and just as comfortable after the most demanding run, yoga, or boot-camp session. From the beginning, we decided to push the envelope by integrating high definition prints into the Merino fabric to fuse fitness with fashion and function and as a result, our clothes truly do look and feel just as good on the studio as they do on the street.

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

Honoured and flattered beyond words.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Many! Manufacturing is by far our biggest challenge and I think our lack of experience in the fashion industry has been both a positive and a negative for us. On the one hand, its enabled us to think outside the square and push the envelope in terms of product development to envisage something that didn’t exist before (truly technical and fashionable performance wear that can be worn all day long). On the other hand, it’s been a very intense process to create this product and work with our suppliers and manufacturers to get it right and to the highest quality.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I try to do something active every day. More for my mental sanity than anything else. I do a combination of barre workouts, HIIT classes and walking my two daughters in the pram. I try to nourish my body with food that is as clean as possible simply to provide me with the energy I need to get through the day as with a 10 week old, a 2.5 year old and a new business my life is very hectic and busy!

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Hard work, putting the customer first (always), doing something you love.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Listen to your inner voice. Talk to other people you trust and develop your idea to the point that it’s a workable business concept. Don’t get paralysed by analysing, just go and do it!

Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

  1. Be Active every day. Even if this means just going for a walk.
  2. Drink at least 2 litres of water each day
  3. Eat healthy fats and minimise sugar in your diet.

I decided to train for and run a marathon after being told by a massage therapist that I didn’t have the “right body” for marathons. It hurt like hell (I couldn’t walk properly for 5 days) but guess what, I ran across the finish line!

You have created a rapidly growing business; Fire and Shine/ethical fitness fashion, what do you attribute this success to? 

Jane and I are very passionate about ethically made activewear and have been fortunate to have partnered with some amazing brands who also have the same values. We want to make it easy for people to do some good and feel like they are making a difference to the world we live in.

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?

Jane and I met at Yoga Teacher training 4 years ago and our journey will never end with our practice. We both had active lives before yoga teacher training with Jane being a triathlete and me doing boxing, personal and weight training. We have been grateful for the health and wellness people we have met and to those people we will meet on our journey.

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

It’s very humbling and we are grateful that we are seen as mentors and are inspiring people to follow their passions and dreams.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Oh where do we start! Yes, we like to call them opportunities and Jane and I enjoy being able to make decisions and feel empowered to drive our business. Our biggest challenge is ensuring we have a positive work life balance.

We both always make time for our yoga practice. Meditation and breath work is also part of finding the balance. Being active is part of our routine and we make time for it every day.

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Believe in what you are doing, find something you are passionate about and find other like-minded people to talk to about it, celebrate the wins – no matter how small they are!, be grateful for whoever and whatever crosses your path, the universe has delivered it for a reason.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream? 

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that it can’t be done, manifest abundance.

– remember to breathe in all situations

– start the day with lemon/lime in warm water

Jackie: I used to play the violin and considered going to the Conservatorium of Music, I love singing in the shower

Jane:  Played the part of Sandy in my Primary School’s  Musical ‘Grease’…. What’s even funnier is that I went to a country Primary School with only 15 students in total, with 2 girls and 1 boy in year seven, so I was a 50/50 chance of getting the part…. I was REALLY bad!!!

Monday Motivation…Femme Fatale {Joelle Christie}

Summer. is. coming.

Ugh oh. Time to put down the delicious nutrient dense superfood smoothies and switch to clean green juices.

One of the latest (and growing rapidly) trends…fitness modeling. Some of you may know I used to compete, but not anymore, Im trying to find my own balance (and look after my hormones for, hopefully, one day a family).

So inspired by this, I wanted to feature someone who motivates me, someone who is always in good shape, is always smiling and is genuinely ‘lovely’ (yes, my favourite word of the moment).

You have created a rapidly growing business; and your own profile as Joelle Christine Fitness Model, in the fitness & health industry, what do you attribute this success to?
I guess it all comes down to the fact that I’m a very normal and average person and I share all the struggles and challenges that I face and people are able to relate to that. So many people only share their highlights on social media and that can unintentionally cause others to look at their own life in a negative way. By showing the good and the bad that I go through I hope to inspire others and make them realise that health, fitness and happiness is achievable and attainable by everyone.

When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the health industry?
Well I went through a period where I was extremely unhappy because I wasn’t eating right and wasn’t exercising and all of that caused me to have no confidence or self-esteem. And those things can impact you not only physically but also mentally. One day I stumbled upon some photos of a fitness model and she looked so happy, healthy and confident that I decided then to change my life. I joined a gym, started a program and after a while decided that I wanted to compete in a Bikini Fitness Competition. I started working towards that and was successful at the competition and the rest is history!

When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself? 
I’m still at Uni (studying law and business) so at the moment my fitness ‘ventures’ are a side project but someday I wish to combine my degree and love for fitness and create something special. I’m not sure what it is yet but watch this space!

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor? 

I’m honoured that some look to me for inspiration and I hope that I am able to continue to inspire and motivate them as they in return motivate and inspire me. I’m just a normal and average girl who had a big dream and is making it come true so I want to be able to help others to find their passion and be happy.

Has there been any challenges along your journey?
Of course! One of the biggest challenges I faced was to find a method of dieting which worked for me (I now do flexible dieting and am very happy). I also faced some negativity regarding my decision to compete from some people but sometimes events like these show people’s true colours and can help to make your life a more positive place.
There’s been heaps of business related challenges too, and I guess it all comes down to showing companies that by working together you are able to add value to their business as they add value to yours.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?
Just keep the big picture in mind. Allowing stress to impact on your health isn’t worth it in the long run so just take a breath, surround yourself with supportive people and remember what you’re working towards.

What do you believe are the keys to success in business?
I think the key to success in business is passion. If you find something that you love and are passionate about then this love and passion will lead to success. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, then you will be successful” (Albert Schweitzer).

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream? 
Surround yourself with supportive people, surround yourself with those than are also dreamers and know that there will be challenges but if you persevere then you will make your dream come true.

1. Health and fitness is not a number on the scale – focus on how you feel rather than what you weigh.
2. Live a balanced life; treat yourself well and treat yourself. Eat healthy food and enjoy the occasional indulgence.
3. Hit your macronutrients and your micronutrients. Eat your vegetables!
