Monday Motivation…Beautiful Minds

You know when you meet people and you just feel ‘WOW’. Marina Passalaris is one of those types of people that make you instantly fall in love with the way her smile lights her face, the depth in her words and the manner in which she acts.

I have been lucky enough to work with Marina & her beautiful program for teenage girls. Something that I am extremely passionate about as a once delinquent teenager.

Its designed to educate teenagers and their parents how to achieve happiness through vital life skills, self-esteem, confidence building and grooming.

‘I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.’ Audrey Hepburn

Charlie: You are a successful business woman and the creator of Beautiful Minds, what do you attribute this success to?

Success is very simple..it boils down to having a clear vision, being lazer focused, working incredibly hard and knowing that giving up is neither a choice or an option.

Charlie: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the wellness industry?

I spent 15 years working as a grooming and deportment educator and make up artist in some of the top modelling agencies in Cape Town, London, Germany and Australia. This industry is known for negatively affecting girl’s confidence. I realised that there was a real need to educate girls more about their emotions and well-being. I wanted to achieve this by doing the Beautiful Minds courses in an environment that was conducive to all girls of any size and from any background, not just model ‘wanna be’s’. I wrote a program that I wish I had done as a young girl. It covers everything about being a teen girl in today’s society. Beautiful Minds has been a vision of mine for many years. I want to show young girls that they are beautiful inside and out.

Charlie: What inspired you to follow your passion?

If you know what your passion in life is, what your purpose is and what you want your legacy to be, you will pursue it with everything you have.

Charlie: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I don’t look at myself as an inspirational figure as that has a tendency to place me on a pedestal. It is more about the sharing of knowledge and passing this onto my Beautiful Minds students in the hope they will go on to create incredible lives for themselves.

‘Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.’ Norman Vincent Peale

Charlie: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

I would say rising above the ‘rip offs’. What I mean by this is that when you have a successful company, other individuals try and copy exactly what you are doing. I have had this experience and the blatant copying is rather outrageous. I have learnt to take it as a weird compliment that we must be doing something right. I also ensure that the business model changes and constantly improves so we are always top of our game.

‘You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.’ Albert Camus

Charlie: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

find it a bit of a juggle at times but as I am getting older, I am really starting to invest more in my health. I try and have one full day off a week, I eat really clean food and I try to exercise as often as possible. I have started having regular massages and putting time aside for me to just be still and to unwind.

Charlie: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

You have to give people an incredible experience. They are buying into a feeling, how you make them feel when they have finished doing business with you. That is imperative. Under promise and over deliver.

Charlie: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

We all have dreams but there is a huge difference between having a dream and taking small steps towards making this dream a reality. Be fearless, take action and chase the dream so it becomes a reality. Women are incredible, we are much stronger than we give ourselves credit for! Go after the life you desire. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it. I understand that fear stops people from doing many things but if your desire is stronger than your fear, you will find a way to do it.

Charlie: What can we look forward to next from you?

As the business has been going for 8 years, it has evolved over time. Beautiful Minds is about to totally change the way we educate young girls and we are in the process of setting up a very exciting event for girls aged 11 – 17. This event will be at The Paddington Town Hall on Saturday 6th September and is a full day jam packed with celebrities, guest speakers, dance troupes, music, dj’s and so much more! The aim of the day is to educate, inspire and entertain our youth. We have 550 tickets and these go on sale on April 10th. This event will then be rolled out Australia wide. There are so many incredible things happening in the Beautiful Minds office at the moment and the growth of the company is extremely exciting.

Charlie: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

1: Every night, I listen to positive affirmations or subliminal music that will positively feed my mind as I fall asleep. I believe in training the mind every single day. We are all taught to exercise our bodies for at least 30 minutes every day. We need to do the same with our minds. This will significantly slow down the mental chatter as you re-program your mind to think positively.

2: Drink lots of water and get adequate sleep each night

3: Eat healthy, clean food. Your body and mind will thank you for it.

I sincerly thank Marina for her time. If you know of anyone who would like to attend her events, or if you would like to stay up to date with her classes and seminars available (there is a course starting next week):

Love the Skin Youre in – Seminar

Some of you may know, but I have over 10 years of experience in the beauty industry {this clarifies me as an expert}. As I have gone on to study health coaching and love to learn/research everything about psychology, it still amazes me how it all comes back to what we eat and the thoughts we think.

On Saturday 20th Sept I will be hosting ‘ Love the Skin youre in’ at Yoga 213 in Bondi (the home of Hip Hop yoga, you must try if you havent yet)

This is not your average…you should cleanse, tone, moisturize seminar. Lets go deeper, what actually happens in the cells, what is acne, what is redness, lines? Join me as I introduce you to the integumentary system, the largest organ in the body and learn that you really are what you eat.

Symptoms or conditions on/in your skin are only signs that something is not quite right internally. Learn how to understand your skin.

True Beauty comes from within.

From emotions to nutrient deficiencies, the signs are all there.

Do you know what you are eating? Do you know the effects that its having internally?

I will never say do this, or do that, I am about education, research and giving you the tools to find out what is right for you, after all we are all biochemically individual. #unique.

Stop looking (or buying) that MIRACLE cream. Let me tell you why.

“Your skin is the fingerprint of what is going on inside your body, and all skin conditions, from psoriasis to acne to aging, are the manifestations of your body’s internal needs, including its nutritional needs.” Dr. Georgiana Donadio, founder of the National Institute of Whole Health

Some of the latest skin care trends include, blood plasma, fillers to plump, bee venom, sperm facials (this is true) and so many more… but I am here to tell you, it all starts internally. The food you eat, the emotions you feel and thoughts you think. Of course we all have a genetic predisposition, but let’s think about prevention rather than cure.

Going a little deeper than just the skin, lets talk about some of the chemicals, preservatives and pesticides we are eating daily. NOt to mention the effects of medication, sugar, alcohol nad stress.

Monday Motivation… Kate Russell {Lululemon}

Its important we surround ourselves with people who inspire us. But to also remember that these people are real…chasing their dreams, following their passions {beating their own trials & tribulations}.

‘Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.’ Dalai Lama

This is why I believe its important to share love & support, lets celebrate the good things in life, the simple things like kindness.

Kate1

Introducing Kate Russell, Regional community manager, Eastern Australia and New Zealand lululemon athletica, and one of the kindest people you will meet.

Charlie: You have created a successful career within a leading fitness wear brand, Lululemon, what do you attribute this success to?

For me, passion drives success. I believe in creating the life you want to lead, regularly stepping out of your comfort zone to open up new opportunities.

On a daily basis, I’m lucky enough to coach teams to develop and execute events, build and connect relationships, discover the coolest events, places and people around, all in between a yoga or fitness class.

‘Be kind, dont judge and have respect for others. If we can all do this, the world would be a better place. The point is to teach this to the next generation.’ Jasmine Guinness.

Charlie: When did you decide to you wanted to be involved in the wellness industry?

I worked in technology and corporate PR (public relations) for six years and loved it. The adrenaline and ever changing nature of the PR world drove me, along with being surrounded by smart team members every day. However whilst I was immersed daily in a world of technology and business, it didn’t come naturally and I realised I was beginning to resent it.

In my spare time, I would read wellness blogs and constantly update my bucket list of things I wanted to achieve (most of which were fitness related!). It was no shock I loved leading a life full of fitness and health. I had a eureka moment one day and thought, imagine if I could combine my love of fitness with building relationships, connecting people and working with like-minded people? And from that moment, the job with lululemon was born.

It is crazy how when you put something out there, channel your positive energy to it, you can reach that goal (or in my case, my dream job).

Charlie: What inspired you to follow your passion?

There were two defining moments for me. The first one was after I was asked to write a blog for a close friend about my journey on training for a half marathon. My manager at the time read it and told me that I inspired her to focus on a goal and then go after it….hard! The second eureka moment was during a brainstorm in my old agency when we had to come up with three words to describe the person sitting next to you. My colleague described me as “enthusiastic, motivational and inspiring”. Those moments made me really think hard about finding a career where I could blend my strengths with my passion.

Charlie: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I actually don’t see myself as being inspirational but if I’m to put a label on it, I guess I hope to see myself as more of an enabler – full of energy and a drive to create a life (work and personal) that I look forward to living. I try and pass that onto those around me. Nothing makes me happier than spending time with someone to work out what they want out of life and giving them the passion and enthusiasm to then go and get it.

Charlie: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

Absolutely. You can’t grow without falling down along the way. However it is how you pick yourself up and keep going that either makes or breaks you.

Charlie: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I love this question because I always wanted to have a “job” that was doing what I loved every day, so therefore wasn’t really a job!  And this role at lululemon is absolutely that. I get to work out every day, trying new personal training and yoga studios around Sydney and connecting with driven people who love what they do.

I do also have a great friends around me that remind me when to ‘switch off’ because when you blend what you love with your job, it can be hard. Whether it’s going for a walk with a girlfriend to having lunch and a few glasses of wines, this balance is what keeps me grounded and successful at what I do.

k5

Charlie: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Identify your strengths and work out how you can use them every day; Network and create relationships with people who will grow and inspire you and then write a game plan of how you will reach that goal.

Also focus on attracting motivated people to create a culture that breeds success. Provide foundations for employees to build their skills, shape their career and essentially move from being good to being amazing.

‘A dream doesnt become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work’ Collin Powell.

Charlie: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Write that dream/goal/ career down. And then write down three steps on how you can achieve that (i.e. whether it’s saving $X per week or attend one new working event per month). Once it is down on paper, your mind will unconsciously start creating the path to reach that dream.

‘Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.’ Harriet Tubman

Charlie: What can we look forward to next from you?

k1

2014 is about taking myself on. Backing myself and taking risks. Getting even more out of my comfort zone.

It is an exciting year for lululemon and I’m ecstatic to be part of driving the company’s vision and brand in Australia and NZ. You will continue to see great technical athletic pieces for both women and men and innovative pieces that will help take you to and from your yoga and gym class.

Charlie: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

  1. Be kind to your body; you only have one!
  2. Avoid classifying foods as “good” and bad”. Because the rebellion in us will always make us want the “bad” foods at some point
  3. Sweat every day; whether it is yoga or a HIIT session, get your body moving. Everyone loves that sweaty glow

I sincerly thank Kate for her time.

Monday Motivation…Lynsey Willenberg {Waters Edge Yoga}

This woman is the reason I have continued my yoga practice. She is my absolute favourite yogi and somehow always seems to know what I am needing in each class. The words she speaks and quotes she chooses always reflect my life, it honestly amazes me. Sometimes I feel like she sees right through me and into my soul, I cant help but smile.

“Wellness is a connection of paths: knowledge and action.”  Joshua Welch.

Im lucky to introduce you to Lynsey Willenberg, director of Waters Edge Yoga {Rushcutters Bay, Balmoral & the Domain}

ly6

Charlie: You are the owner of Waters Edge Yoga, a rapidly growing yoga practice, what do you attribute this success to?

A cup of passion for health and fitness, a tablespoon of seeing individuals transform their health and a pitch of a desire for constructive feedback is my recipe for success. I get such a kick out of receiving feedback from customers and really listening to their wants and needs.

Charlie: When did you decide to you wanted to be a yogi?

A Yogi to me is someone who can love, care, listen and treat themselves as well as others with respect. I was taught these fundamental qualities by my family since day dot and continue to live by them. Although I have practiced and taught the physical elements of Yoga for many years, I feel like I have always been a Yogi. It is wasn’t a decision, it is a lifestyle.

Charlie: When did you decide you wanted to work for yourself?

I have worked and continue to work for other companies. I do really enjoy the collaboration and working in a team, it is a great space to  learn and grow from others. However, building my own empire has been one of my goals for a long time. I am a free spirit who is very driven so I decided that giving it a go couldn’t hurt right?  In 2013, I began the journey and I love every bit of it with my whole being.

“Better indeed is knowledge than mechanical practice. Better than knowledge is meditation. But better still is surrender of attachment to results, because there follows immediate peace.“ Bhagavad Gita.

ly1

Charlie: How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

I don’t really see myself as an inspirational figure/mentor. I just live the life the way I believe is true to my core values. I try to be the best person I can be for my friends, family and students and hope that they also strive for their dreams. I just like being me and if that happens to inspire others, then that is one awesome by-product.

Charlie: Has there been any challenges along your journey?

HECK YES!!! There are daily challenges if not hourly! Haha.. and you have to embrace them. I have struggled a lot with my limiting core beliefs, which can hold me back from achieving my goals. How have I dealt with this challenge? I have acknowledged these thoughts and accept it is a part of me instead of fighting them. I use tools such as positive affirmations, Yoga, meditation and surrounding myself with beautiful, uplifting and supportive friends and family.

“He who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything.“ Arabian Proverb.

Charlie: How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

I break down my goals into categories; career, relationships, well-being & financial. I read them every day and make sure that daily I work towards each and everyone of them. It really helps me to not put the emphasis on one more than the other because in order to obtain my balance life, every single goal needs my attention.

”We don’t realize that, somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme self who is eternally at peace.” -Eat, Pray Love

ly2

Charlie: What do you believe are the keys to success in business?

Love what you do!

Back yourself; you ARE awesome and unique

When a problem arises, look at it as an opportunity to  grow and learn

Believe that every day you are presented with thousands of opportunities. Keep an open mind and you never know where the next great thing will present itself

Embrace constructive criticism

Charlie: What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

Go get’em Tiger!!! Haha…

Be specific and clear what that dream is. Visualise it, hear it, smell it, taste it! Ignite all your senses so that you feel your whole being already there.

Write your dreams on a piece of paper or print out pictures of what they are. Stick them in your shower and see it every day!

ly3

Charlie: When can we look forward to next from you?

Ahhh. I have a few great things up my sleeve. Blogging, video content, teacher training

Charlie: Top 3 healthy tips/advice?

  1. Have a plan. Get rid of the “Ummm…I am hungry, what should I eat? syndrome” Invest time into constructing a weekly healthy meal plan and stick it on the fridge. This will remove any ambiguity of deciding what to eat. When you are ready for your breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner, you won’t waste precious mental energy working out what healthy meal should be. Mix it up and change your meal plan weekly or fortnightly
  2. Move your body every day. Whether that is creating shapes with your body in Yoga, going for a run, walking, using the stairs rather than the lift make sure you MOVE it! Move in a way that you feel your cells, muscles and organs are singing with praise.
  3. Consistency is the key. When I was younger, I use to practice my timetables consistently every day until they became so ingrained in my mind that it became easy to reel off any timetable. I find it is similar to health and fitness. If you consistently practice good eating and fitness behaviours, it just becomes a part of you and without thinking, you find yourself naturally living a healthy lifestyle.

Charlie: Share something no one knows…

Haha! That is always a tricky question because there are reasons why you don’t say things that no one knows but I will give it a go…

I think my head is too big for my body..weird!!

My Yoga Matt…my Magic Carpet.

Last night during our yoga class we were invited to make our intention…Triumph, to celebrate every small ‘win’ we have in our life, for having a better day than yesterday, for choosing happier thoughts, healthier foods, for making it to the yoga matt (in yoga you are welcomed to set an intention/focus for your class, whatever it is that you are needing today, in this moment of your life).

images-23

Some of you may know, I have made a commitment to my yoga practice; 5 x per week. I do believe that yoga changed my life in ways I couldn’t begin to imagine over 12 months ago (I would try to practice 1-2 x per week then). Now, as my life is immensely changing I wanted some form of structure, so I choose yoga (I am also lucky enough to have the flexibility to fit this into my current work/life schedule), the most rewarding practice for my mind, body and soul during one of the most exhilarating, special and possibly scariest times of my life.

Now, I come from an athletic background, I love feeling my body work, pushing it to its limits, running; long distance, sprints, weights etc. Therefore, Yoga for me is extremely challenging, to keep my active mind focused on and in my practice.

Its been over a month now since Ive made my comitement and keeping it (probably one of the longest commitments Ive kept in a while), and I have been experiencing a new feeling, something out of this world.

‘Mindfulness helps you go home to the present. And every time you go there and recognize a condition of happiness that you have, happiness comes’. Thich Nhat Hanh

tumblr_misjeeX62F1rmly4qo1_500

As I lay on my matt, my body is automatically filled with a sense of familiarity, of thanks, it nearly feels like a ‘hello’, a sense of ‘welcome’. I presume this is because as I continue my practice I am starting to reap the rewards of which there are many, and my body senses this as I am welcomed onto my matt, ready to experience the joys of yoga.

In Aladdin, Aladin says to Princess Jasmine ‘Its a magic carpet, lets get out of the palace, see the world’.

My yoga matt is my magic carpet, it offers me a whole new world, filled with love, peace and positivity.

‘I can open your eyes, take you  wonder by wonder. On a magic carpet ride, a whole new world, a new fantastic point of view, no one to tell us no or where to go, or say were only dreaming, a whole new word, a dazzling place a I never knew.’ Aladdin

You create a sense of connection between your mind, body and soul on your yoga matt. Yes, there are struggles, to keep focused and present is part of the practice that is yoga. It’s important to find a yogi and studio you connect with, this will make the difference to your practice, whether you enjoy it or dread it.

“I have been a seeker and I still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars. I started listening to the teaching of my Soul.” Rumi

I practice at Flow Athletic (www.flowathletic.com.au) and my favourite yogi is Lynsey W. She speaks to us as we hold postures, struggling between feeling the fire within our body and keeping focus within the mind. She speaks about celebrating the feeling, last night she said ‘its called yoga practice, not yoga perfect’, I couldnt help but smile, all to often as we attempt these postures that the yogis make look effortless, we become so serious, demanding on our bodies trying to force our way into the posture.

Yoga is a reward. My yoga matt my transportation to a better world.

Central Park Urban Yoga

In this world I am free from negativity, free from stress, I am filled with love and peace. For yoga teaches you how to be calm in the midst of a storm (situation), that no matter what happens or where you are on your own life journey, you can always return to this place of peace, your yoga matt adn generate a feeling of love and wellbeing within yourself.

‘When you find peace within yourself, you become th kind of person who can live at peace with others’. Peace Pilgrim

‘A whole new world, unbelievable sights, indescribable feeling.’ Aladin

Shavasna is the final posture (destination) in yoga practice and I’ve recently been finding myself filled with something that feels like (I imagine) light would feel, I am filled with a sense of bliss, so much so I’ve begun to notice that I lay with a gentle smile on my lips, in my eyes and in my heart.

Yoga practice, not perfect. Thank you, you are changing my life and allowing me to become a better version of myself.

Sunday Self Love; SLOW down

With so much change occurring in my life; taking the leap to work for myself doing what I love, I have been filled with so much excitement and nervously (graciously) overwhelmed with disbelief about how quickly it is happening for me. I’ve been finding it hard to return to myself, to be calm, and be still.

‘You cannot always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside’.

IMG_0110I was lucky enough to be invited to attend a master class with Nicole Walsh (absolutely amazing and accredited with years of experience) at Flow Athletic today (perhaps the owner Kate knew I was needing it 😉

After a morning working away at my love/hate affair with In design (trying to get the images for the second book edit complete), I was well aware I needed a break. Research shows you are productive for a period of no longer than 90 minutes, then its best to walk away and do something else (this can be hard to do when you feel the pressure of a deadline/to do list). In fact professional musicians and athletes alike will train intensely for this period of time, rest then return and train/practise again.

I decided I needed the well deserved break and the master class; unwind & let go (even the name sounded exactly perfect for what I was needing) was a perfect reason for one.

IMG_0995

As we were welcomed by Nicole, I couldn’t help but be in awe of this beautiful woman, she had something inside of her, a warmth, kindness, love that radiated out. There was an instant feeling of calm being in her class, and as she mentioned that we wouldn’t be doing any intense asanas (a slight sigh of relief on a sunday afternoon), but we would be returning to the breath, to calm our nervous system and be still.

I wasnt quite sure what to expect, 2 hrs of breathing? I must admit, I have  been dedicated to my yoga practice (5 x per week for 2 whole weeks! Yes, a little proud) I was nervously anticipating the 2 hr class, I wasnt to sure how I would actually manage (I was feeling slightly sore after personal training the day prior).

IMG_5184

Nicole opened the class with a humming breathing technique; Bhramari Pranayama (Bee breath). I’ve never practised this, or heard of it before, but my goodness, how pretty, it felt so soft on the throat, and so soft on the ears.

As Nicole guided us with her gentle voice through gentle asanas (postures), we were reminded to return to the breath at all times. In a way of meditation; mediation does not mean to not think, (you can never not think, but it means to focus your thought and be aware), so always returning our focus to the breath whilst feeling the body relax (sometimes breathing into the fire/stretch) and wind down.

The  class was over before I knew it! There was a relaxation period to promote Yogic sleep, and Im still unsure if I fell into this yogic sleep (not actually asleep) or if I actually fell completely asleep.

‎”The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind & the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.” ~ B.K.S. Iyengar

When I left the class it felt as though I was floating on air, (even thought it was an earthing/grounding class), I felt a certain freedom, perhaps as though the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders, I was present in the moment and it felt like I was free.

“Yoga takes you into the present moment, the only place where life exists.”

Todays self-love remember to be calm. To be still can be as effective as to be chaotic/busy trying to get things done. In actual fact, spending some time rewarding your mind-body and soul works in a regenerative manner, and can benefit that ‘to do’ list you feel is weighing you down.

IMG_0190Take some time out. Your body, your mind will love you for it (and we love a little self loving)

Making it happen, a day in my life.

It is possible to live your dream reality, but it is hard work. As the saying goes, nothing worth having ever came easy.

You must dedicate yourself to your goals, and effectively plan your time so you can reach them.

Failure to plan is planning to fail.

I often get asked, how I do it all, or I don’t know how you do it. The simple answer is I WANT it, with every essence of my breath, I wa t to be MORE. And I am doing everything I can to make that happen.

ml6

So…for those that are curious (most probably aren’t :)…

My commitments: My career (I work full-time as a BDM for a supplement company), my health (I am a sponsored athlete; Flush Fitness, Sally Matterson Personal TRaining, Anytime Fitness Randwick) and am currently preparing for a Fitness Model competition, my personal growth (I study nutrition at the Institute of Integrative nutrition), my personal passion (my own Wellness coaching clients and programs/blogging), my self-love practice (Yoga, 2 x weekly so I can study to become a Yogi/next years goal), a secret project (to be released soon).

If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things. Albert Einstein

ml4

I would say I am committed. If I didn’t have effective time management I wouldn’t get anything done. In amongst these commitments there are of course family, friends and an attempt at a social life.

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking. Marcus Aurelius

My work schedule changes every day, so I have learnt to plan ahead, training and my meal times so I never forget to eat (my body wouldn’t let me), and because I am luckily enough to love what I do, it’s a choice I make; to be the best I can be.

Weekends:

Basically…Write, client consults, client programs, training, Yoga and social time.

*previously this included a lot of ‘treat’ making, but whilst I am on my cleanse Ive chose to be kind to myself and refrain from this practice.

Life begets life. Energy becomes energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich. Sarah Bernhardt

if you really want something, YOU can have it, you just have to plan ahead and be prepared. there will always be obstacles, there will always be challenges, these are lifes way of asking…how much do you want it?

Overcome adversity and it will be worth it.

Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do. Pope John XXIII

As full on as my days are, I have made these commitments to myself and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also, another great lesson learnt, that when you ask so much of yourself, you realise the importance of truly nourishing your Mind (positivity), Body (nutrition)and Soul (calm), because when these 3 aspects are aligned, that’s when dreams do come true.

What can you do more of? Be more. It is possible.

Monday Motivation

Happy Monday Morning beautiful people!

(No, we will NOT start the week grumbling!) I could barely contain my excitement last night as I was working on NBB’s very first MONDAY MOTIVATION.

Let me explain…Life is not always easy, focus can come and go, good and bad things DO happen. Mondays have a tendency to have us feeling a little uninspired. Each week NBB will feature an inspiring figure, someone we can aspire to become, someone living their dream.

For the very first MM, I would like to introduce; Kate Kendall, Creator/Director at Flow Athletic (a personal inspiration to myself).

About FLOW ATHLETIC:

Flow Athletic was founded by Kate Kendall and Ben Lucas. Brought together through their passion for a balanced approach to fitness, they have crafted their dream exercise space. Kate and Ben met and shared their vision for a new kind of fitness concept when Kate taught Ben yoga in his preparation for an ultra marathon.

Together they envisioned a luxe, inviting and communal environment where students could benefit from combining yoga practice with cardio and strength training for an innovative and balanced approach to fitness.

NBB  review:

Flow Athletic is a new Yoga & Fitness studio, located in the Heart of Paddington. Flow Athletic offers Yoga, TRX, Spin classes, boxing and running groups plus healthy lifestyle/living challenges shared with an inspirational community of people wanting to live a healthy, positive life.

Flow Athletic is MY time away from the world, MY time just for ME and to reward and honour my body, whilst taking amount to appreciate the essence that is the universe.

Monday Motivation….

When you decided to become a Yogi?

KK: I decided to take up yoga when I was 25 after a year living in London. I thought it would be an ‘easy’ way to ease my way back into fitness. Not only was I surprised at how challenging it was, I noticed that it toned my whole body really quickly.

How did you know it was the right path for you?

KK: It was the mental benefits that did it for me and made me realize this was the path for me. That’s why I get so much of a kick out of watching others be inspired by yoga.

What does Yoga mean to you?

KK: Yoga to me is all about being closer to yourself and understanding others. It’s not just a physical practice but the way you live your life off the mat.

When did you first dream about opening Flow Athletic?

KK: I first dreamed of having my own studio when I got serious about yoga (shortly after starting yoga I would go 4 times a week). But the idea of combining yoga & fitness wasn’t conceived until Ben (co-founder) started coming to my yoga classes. We became mates and he also started giving me fitness PT. We each saw the benefits our disciplines were having on each other and from there Flow Athletic started to grow.

Making your dream reality, how does that feel?

KK: Although its hard work it feels great to have give back and create an awesome community in which our mission is to inspire healthy & remarkable lives.

How do you feel as an inspirational figure/mentor?

KK: I don’t think of myself of a role model but I do aim to inspire! I just want as many people to get the same benefits from yoga that I have.

How do you maintain balance between your Career and personal health?

KK: Balance when we first opened was tricky. I work fairly long hours but I’m starting to get into a good routine with balance. I like to do one spin & TRX class each week as well as my own practice daily. Friday nights and Sundays are my KK time. Chill with friends or spend time alone. Friends are so important and i am so blessed to have such great and supportive mates who I can share a laugh with.

What is your advice for anyone who has a dream?

KK: My advice for anyone with a dream: be persistent. If it were easy – everyone would do it; be open to feedback, advice and change; eat clean and train well and make time for relaxation to stay sharp! xx

Share something no one knows…

KK: Most people don’t know I grew up in a small country town in southern NSW famous for apples called Batlow

What is Health?

What does being healthy mean to you?

If I was to ask everyone one of you who joined this page yesterday (thank you!) what does health mean, Im sure the answers would be varied.

Most people believe that health is about weight and diet.

I believe that being healthy means that you have balance in all aspects of your life;
Healthy lifestyle; nutrition & exercise.
Healthy relationships; family, love & friendships.
Healthy career; mental stimulation.
Healthy Finances.

The circle of life.
When one area is not in balance you will quickly find it will affect another area in your life. If you are unhappy in a romantic relationship, you may find that friendships will start to strain. If you are unhappy in your chosen career, you may find your romantic relationship becomes strained (we easily misdirected anger, resentment, and negativity).

It’s not always easy to take a step back and evaluate your life. But it’s something we should do, more often. I know for myself, it’s so easy to fall out of balance, get off track, or get mislead.
Take a moment today to sit and be quiet and simply write down everything you love about your life; what IS working for you?! Be thankful or everything hat is already good in your life, YOU created it!

Take a moment to reflect; what would you like to be better? (NEVER EVER say something is Bad, or you’ve done something in a bad way, this leads to a torrent of Guilt, sadness and regret). Instead, what is it that you would like to better in your life?

Do you have broken communication with a family member, lover, friend? Reach out. Communicate. Swallow your pride.
All to often situations escalate because people act with their egos and fear being wrong. Does it really matter who is right and who is wrong? (of course, sometimes it is better to let go if you have been harmed in a serious manner) At the end of the day we were brought into this world to love. Stop acting with your ego, try to communicate effectively, understand that every person is different, with different emotions and morals, and let go of the past.

You never know what you have until its gone. Famous quote.

Do you wake up in the morning pressing snooze (as many times as possible), or does your alarm go off and you wake up ready for what the world will bring you today?

If you are in a situation, regardless of whether it be relating to relationships, weight, career, finance, that you are unhappy with… Only you have the power to change. You can choose how you live your life, in forgiveness, resolving issues, or consumed with regret, remorse, holding onto past negativities.phr ybu7gto

Are you living a life in balance?
I am a sensitive (read, emotional) soul, I tend to take everything personally, and some days I just feel ‘disconnected’. On these days I try to take a moment to myself, whether it be in a Yoga class, at the gym, running or just simply 5 minutes with a green tea, to look within myself and ask ‘ what can I do to feel better?’ Simple. Trust your instinct. You will know if there is an issue that needs to be resolved and if you take a small moment to ask yourself, you will surprised at what comes to you. the answer.

My advice, stop procrastinating (believe me, I’ve practised this art so much I’d consider myself a professional), resolve it. The longer you leave it, whatever it may be, the bigger it will become. If you read yesterday’s post about your mind as a garden, anything you plant will grow & develop, this unfortunately also works for problems and negativity.

phy4 ub467oto

Note: if you feel out of balance, which happens, do something good for yourself. This becomes a healthy habit and you will soon build trust in yourself that when something doesn’t go quite right, or you fall off track, return to this place of well being. (If you noticed, my reflective time to reconnect is through Yoga (soul nourish), gym/running (body nourish), quiet time & green tea (mind nourish).

It’s all about awareness.
Ask yourself, what can I do to make you happy today? Louise Hay

Stop worrying about changing other people IT DOESN’T WORK.

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to Change the world. Today I am wise,  so I am changing myself.

The circle of life; things will go right, things will go wrong, but everything will be ok. Trust yourself.

Love & light, Charlie x.
